First enclosure - Am I ready?
First of all my name is Jeff and I have been visiting this site frequently in preparation for getting my first BP. Just about every question I have had could be answered by doing a search. There has been a lot of great info. Now I think I am ready for a tenant for my first enclosure. It's nothing fancy, real simple, but I wanted to make sure i'm not forgetting anything.

I'm using a sterilite 32 qt. storage box with approx. 19 holes put on each long side via use of a soldering iron. I then have flexwatt taped underneath with a t-stat (probe directly on the flexwatt). My thermometer readings are at 80 degrees on the cool side, 92-95 degrees on the warm side (thermometer probe is under the warm side hide) and depending on where the water bowl is, the humidity ranges from 57% to 61%. I'm using newspaper as a substrate (2 layers). I also have two hides (one on each side). I will be using binder clips to keep the lid on tight.

Is there anything I have forgotten to do? I have been testing this setup for a few days, and hope to get a BP within the next week or so. I value opinions and want to be ready as much as possible.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Jeff you make all the work on this forum so worthwhile! What a perfect setup your first time up to bat! And you used the search engine (be still my beating heart LOL). Everything looks great. Have you decided where to get your first BP from and whether you want a male or female, normal or morph?

I wish more newbies were like you!!! Everything looks great (you actually took the time to get the right things you need) and it's so wonderful to hear you did your research! Your new BP is going to be one happy camper!

It looks awesome! And I'm with Jo in expressing astonishment at actually hearing that someone used the search feature to do their research! Woohoo!! :giggle:

I'm excited for you, and looking forward to seeing pictures of your new snakie when you finally fill that tank with the most important missing piece! (The snake, as Nathan pointed out!)

If you need any help in finding a breeder or information about how to buy a healthy, well started BP baby just holler out. You've done so much good prep work you don't want to end up with anything less than a perfect little BP to put in there.

Thanks for all the feedback. There is one guy here where I live (Las Vegas) who claims to be an "expert" with reptiles. His name is Ken Foose and he has done several interviews on another snake site and owns a shop here called exotic pets. I've visited his store and aside from the fact his A/C went out on the day I visited, it seemed alright, even though things were a bit crowded. He was expecting some BP's next week. I'll take a look at what he has and if I don't like what I see, i'll just leave. I am pretty picky when it comes to what I like. As far as morphs, we'll see. I believe that you have to crawl before you walk.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

BTW, if I don't like what I see, i'll definitely check back here for help.

It would be good to know where he's "expecting" them from.

    Good Point.

On another positive note, Ken Foose has a pretty solid rep on Fauna Classifieds. When I was at his store he stated he wasn't satisfied with selling BP's until they started feeding well. I don't know if that is good or not, but it doesn't sound too bad to me.

Not sure if you got my PM, but Rich Macias is also in LV and he's awesome. I picked up my striped girl Misty from him and would recommend him to everyone.

Congrats on that wonderful setup. I think you made a wise choice with the plastic bin. You will find it very easy to regulate temps and humidity. Also, great job on the early set-up and tweaking all of the environmental issues. Make sure you post some pics of your new buddy when it arrives.

Sorry I missed this thread! Great setup and congrats on getting everything in order BEFORE you get the snake! We all love to see that...I have heard some good things about Ken Foose but you might want to check the BOI on Fauna to make sure. Best of luck!
