Re: Siamese Pup
Awwww! Are you keeping him, selling him, or feeding him off? I would love to have one like that...I miss having pet rats.

One of the above. Most of my siamese tend to have small litters, but big babies (this is an example, siamese mother). so Im more likely to feed off or sell as food

Re: Siamese Pup
Cute pics Bryan. That siamese is quite lovely. We cut back on our breeding for awhile with the move and all and are now just gearing back up. We're also reaching retirement age on some of our favorite breeders so I'm busy lately either picking out nice young ones from our own weanlings or checking out pet stores for interesting looking young rats.

If you were nearby, I'd want to buy that little guy from you. I can't wait until my breeders start producing...babies are just too cute! :)

Re: Siamese Pup
Cool..thanx.
Where are you located..if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Siamese Pup
From what bit of understanding I have of the siamese trait in rats, they will have darker and more point markings if they are kept in a cooler environment, less if their environment is warm.
-
Re: Siamese Pup
It's the same for cats as well. Points are temperature-based...the reason the color develops on the ears, paws, nose, and tail is because these areas are the coolest parts of the body. The warmer fur near the body stays creamy or white. That's why as they get older, the points and body get darker...because the fur has been exposed to heat longer than younger animals.

Re: Siamese Pup
I'll be back up there in October for sure. My husband's possibly facing a medical discharge for injuries to his legs, but if it doesn't go through in time, he'll be deploying to Iraq in October for a year. I'll be moving back to Madison with our daughter and the Zoo. :)

Re: Siamese Pup
Aw, they are so cute at that stage. They stumble all over the place like blind little rats (which they are, I guess, lol.) I miss my Siameses; just have albinos, a hooded and a black for now.
