how do i get my boa big fast without herting it

i have a 200 gl tank she is 2 feet but like i sed i donot want to do a over feed

Let nature take it's course. Feed it an appropriately-sized prey item every 7 days and it will grow quicker than you think.

Did you mean a 20g tank? If you seriously have a 200g tank, that is WAY too big for such a small baby boa...you're majorly going to stress it out.

Trying to grow boas fast is a very bad idea!!! It can cause regurge and etc. Boas are not forgiving like pythons.

Yeah...you ain't kidding. Just give her regular feedings and she'll grow like a weed!!!

I've read that switching from mice to rats will improve it's growth. I know it did for my ball python. DON'T power feed...once a week should be more than enough. Some people feed after the snake poo's...that may be a good idea...feed a rat whose girth is as big around as the snake.

200? that is massive....and as mentioned...too big. go smaller.

Having a small snake in a big tank will make it feel very exposed and scared. Their instinct is to hide and not be seen, so by putting her in a big glass enclosure like that, you're making her feel out in the open. You definitely need to put her in a smaller tank.

DO NOT buy a bigger boa to put in with her. The bigger one will most likely eat the smaller one. Aside from that, they are solitary animals and do best when living alone. Having a cagemate will stress them out, cause them to vie for heat and hiding places, and could cause them not to eat. Plus if one gets sick, the other will too. You also won't know who pooped or regurgitated if it happens.

I think you should do a bit more research online about the care of boas. Anyone have any good links to share?

trust us... your snake doesn't like living out in the open and exposed. this will only stress it out!

snakes prefer a nice dark small place to curl up and feel safe... venturing out when they want to. offering two hides is ideal, one on the warm side and one on the cool side... here's a link to a caresheet:

Heres about what my female boa has grown
By one year old she was about 3'6". Now at around 2 years old she is almost 5' and 5 lbs. Boas grow pretty fast for the first 2 years, after that it slows. In about 5 years you should have a HEALTHY 6-7' boa assuming its not a dwarf locality. Patience is the key with boas. You can see the difference when you are over feeding a boa. I was feeding my girl 2 large rats every WEEK not to long ago and since I switched her to 1 XL rat about every 14 days she seems much happier, more active, muscular, and healthier. Nice tank but the octagons are harder to get a good temperature gradient of 77-90 established. If you put tons of branches, fake leaves, and substrate he can burrow in I don't see why he wouldn't be able to live in there. In the wild they have many miles surrounding them, they curl up is a small spot and they are secure enough. Same in captivity for most boas. If you can just get him set up in a rubbermaid sweater box with some holes drilled or melted in it. Put an UTH or flexiwatt under half of it and hook that to a dimmer. You'll be good until he gets 3-4' that way then he would be ok in that cage for sure

Thats definitely not a 200 gallon enclosure. Thats actually a 20 or 30 gallon hexagonal tank, for for future reference.

Here's the deal with that tank size. There is very little floorspace, and you boa is not going to be able to properly thermoregulate in such a small space. Thermoregulation is the term for the act of the snake moving around the enclosure in order to maintain an optimal body temperature. This is why floorspace is so important- as your boa grows, it will have less options as far as temperatures go, and could result in stress, which is detrimental to the health of the snake. It's probably ok for now, since the boa looks young, but I would start planning on upgrading the tank now, so its ready to go when your boa is ready to move into it.

Someone gave me an old one like that and like Brad says that's not a 200 gallon. Heck I may as well just post again...."yeah what Brad said" LOL!

They do or did make the hexagons in a 65 gallon size also, but regardless of the size they are not appropriate for snake enclosures (lack of floor space).

She wouldn't have died from a big cage...either she was sick before you bought her, or you weren't providing adequate heat/food/water.

She died???? Well nothing in this thread will answer or help you figure out why she died other than a necropsy by your vet.

Poor thing; it looked healthy in the pics. I would strongly urge you to do some research before getting any new pet.

Wow! I doubt she died because of the lousy husbandry. Unless you had her for quite a while under bad conditions. If you decide to get another i suggest also to do some extensive research on the type of animal you getting so that you will be prepared for it before you even bring it home. If you buy another also make sure it is healthy and eating well. And one more thing make sure you buy from a breeder with good reputation.

Honestly, I generally have a low tolerance for posts with poor spelling, that being said I don't know that he warranted being labled a "troll". He wasn't disrespectful in any of his posts and as far as I could tell wasn't posting to gain attention. Seemed to me he was just looking for a little help; rather than belittling him and his poor spelling we should try to educate him about his snake and proper husbandry so that the same mistakes aren't made again the next time he brings a snake home. I commend the posters that were able to look past his spelling and offer solid husbandry advice. That's what separates this site from so many others...:)

i am verry sorry for your loss. dont listen to those people who pick on you for your spelling. we are all good and bad at different things. i hope you will get a different cage before you buy another one. a big rubermade container is a great cage for a boa. i have 6 young boas in them right now. once again i am verry sorry for your loss. if you need any advice in the future dont hesitate to send me a message.

You really should have done some more research before you got the snake. Why on earth would you buy a "sick" snake without having previous experience dealing with them? I'm sorry if I come off as an ass but this story really isn't adding up. Your asking about getting your snake big fast without hurting it, why wouldn't you think about getting him over his "sickness" before worrying about getting him big fast? Doesn't all add up to me. People will take you more seriously if you atleast type in full words and scentences. Saying "4" instead of for and try and spell stuff out, people may take you as someone that cares about the care of your snake. Just my .02 cents
