Orlah just gave us a clutch of five good eggs

hi everyone as alot of you know i have had jo"s girls here to breed to my pastel well i never saw a lockup and she never showed the signs of being gravid. But this weekend when i was gone she layed 5 good eggs. and i just put the incubator up last month so had to get it out and going i will be posting pics tomarrow.

5....we got 5!!! Mike and I are beyond thrilled let me tell you! We had a great day today at the Toledo Zoo but then came home to a flood in our bathroom. We were so tired from 6 hours at the zoo with Mikey and came home to that mess so when Eugene called he literally made our day in more ways than one!

Can't wait to see the pics of our lovely Orlah and her eggs. Thanks again Eugene for being a great guy whose handled this breeding loan and the care of our precious females so wonderfully well. Here's to all of us getting what we've hoped so long to get ;)

Thanks to BPNet for providing such a great place to hang out. The breeding loan between members is just another wonderful bonus to this place! Now excuse me while I go back to my "omg one of our snakes laid eggs" dance....

How will the split work?

It's a 50/50 split Cue with Eugene having first pick as his male is the morph in this case. Just very simple, he picks, we pick and so on with any extra snake going to Eugene if he wants it.

Wow we got eggie's now we might get baby snakies.I just can't get over it had given up on this year it's just great news,whatever we get out of them will be good enough for me not that i wouldn't love to see five or at least 2 pastels but just to get live babies the first time is good enough for me.

thanks everyone. we did kind of give up this year with the late start and all and i had put every thing and while cleaning saw that and i few words came out and the sprint to get the incubator up and running again

Thanks for putting up the pics Eugene! Give Orlah a nice juicy rat and a pat on the head from us for a job well done. Hopefully the dented one will pop back up with the humidity in the incubator. Now the wait begins to see if you candle veins....then the countdown to hatching....lordy but this is a long process LOL.

Oh forgot to ask you Eugene if you weighed the clutch and also if Orlah was nice coming off her eggs. She's usually the nicest mannered BP in the world but any momma snake can get testy at that time LOL.

Oh and Aleesha I called on the wisdom of a certainly lovely lady of NERD and apparently they can be candled very soon after being laid or candled after they are settled in the incubation process. Even ones that don't candle perfect right up front are worth trying and seeing what will happen apparently. (thank you Miss Kara, you're a doll to answer my questions...I'm such a newb an excited one at that LOL :hug: )

ni i didn't weigh them my scale went dead last week and she wasn't to bad didn't want to let go of them and a little hiss but thats it and she took a small rat last night. and i will hopefully candle this week end

Awww I'm getting all teary about Orlah being a mom (okay you can all make fun, I'm a newb and a sentimental one but I don't care so there lol). I'm glad she came off easy Eugene. She's never once hissed or struck at us and is one of the easiest snakes I've seen to handle but one never knows when there are eggs around. Glad to hear she ate right off the bat so she can build herself back up.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and sharing this first experience with us. I hope Mike and I will be posting about eggs after this breeding season. Had a BPNet forum member over to visit today and he was amazed at the size of Malachi for a year old male LOL. Mal's raring to go so now it's just a matter of seeing if Kyna and Saoirse will be ready come fall.

Thanks Tim, we think Orlah is very pretty despite her long dorsal scarring. Her head is lovely and light and she's just such a big graceful, gentle girl. Her name means "golden princess" by the way. Cue don't remind me about time passing...I swear I'll be a wreck before this is over LOL. Thank goodness the eggs are at Eugene's or I'd be haunting the incubator hourly! Thanks Jude, I can't think of a prettier picture I've seen then one of our own females on her first clutch (ohhh lordy I'm teary again! :oops: )

well everyone i jsut candeled last night and two had good veins

Don't get rid of the ones without veins just yet. They may still develop some. Sometimes, if the veins are small, they are hard to see in fresh eggs. Put them in the incubator with the others, and if they are infertile, they will probably go bad in about a week, then toss them. I would incubate them until they went bad.

Hopefully the others will show soon Eugene. As Tim said, just wait and watch.

Cue, we were actually planning on renewing our breeding contract with Eugene for this coming season. With Orlah laying so late in the year though we'll all talk about what is best for her. We miss our big girls but the opportunity to do a breeding contract with Eugene's lovely males is too good to miss for us. As well he's a great guy that takes perfect care of our females so we know they are in good hands.

oh there's no way a was going to get rid of the other eggs they look good and could still be good. even if they good bad i might end up keeping them as the are all connected in the pile of eggs

Thanks, it's a great benefit of this site that it does bring together folks striving for a common goal and in this case a breeding contract was a good thing (they often aren't and go wrong if both parties don't know each other well and are decent honest folks).

Just got back from the taylor show last weekend got to see a spider comming out of the egg, can't wait to see our girls eggs with little snake heads peering out of them. On the topic of the Taylor Michigan Show for it's size the reptiles there were suprising in the amount of differnt morphs avaialbe anyone in the area should check it out.

I know I'm a tad late on this thread, but Congrats Jo and Eugene!! That must have been incredibly exciting to discover a clutch that you didn't expect. Now... where's a pic of dad?? :snake:
