What Would You Do?
I'm sure most everyone has experienced this at some point in their working career - or maybe not.
But we have a lunch thief at work. Doesn't matter if your name is on it or not - if they want it, they're going to eat it. No one knows who it is (or isn't saying). So, I started to put my name on my Lean Cuisine's in the freezer - and that seemed to stop them for a little while - at least they know WHO they are stealing from.
So, today, I'm all excited about my Brick Oven Pizza (Lean Cuisine) - go to the freezer and it's gone. I was livid!
Was talking to some co-workers and they suggested getting an empty Lean Cuisine Box of the type that keeps getting stolen and seal it up with some frozen mice in there - that should stop them! LOL
What creative thing would you do to stop a lunch thief or have done? I'm talking SWEET revenge!

Re: What Would You Do?
Web cam baby! Then broadcast it and watch them suffer :gj:

Re: What Would You Do?
Or use the recorded material as bm. Get the money and then get them fired!
Yes!!!
:sabduel:

Re: What Would You Do?
Or poison the food and watch for them to become ill
-
Re: What Would You Do?
Or put some foil in the food so when they heat it up in the microwave it starts a fire!!

May wanna check out ur company policy regarding cameras in the work place before you do that. Personally, I many be tempted to post a stern note on the door and see how it goes from there. Worse comes to worse, you could always turn to laxatives to flush out the culprit :P :D

Re: What Would You Do?
This is me ... but of course, I am the devil ...
I'd get a lean cuisine from the store ... open the box and take the wrapper off of the tray ... dump the contents in the trash and fill the tray with dog poop ... then re-wrap the tray ... then on the outside of the box with a black sharpie write ... "VET - DO NOT TOUCH".
That's how I roll.

Re: What Would You Do?
Yeh just set up a small hidden camera..but do NOT tell anyone...not even your trusted co-workers. You could be telling the theif exactly what you are doing
-
Re: What Would You Do?
That's just wrong, to take other people's food!
I'm not sure how easy it would be to find something like this...but what if you put some kind of "trick ink" on the box/bag of food...and when the thief handles it, it will show up later all over his hands. Voila...you've found your thief.

Re: What Would You Do?
What do you do for lunch Raber when somebody jacks your food?

Re: What Would You Do?
I used to have problems at university, with a shared fridge in the dorm, people stealing my pizza.
Until I started always ordering my pizza with anchovies...I lub'em!
My suggestions:
- get a small lunchbox that will fit in the freezer or fridge that's lockable and put a small lock on it.
- take Lean Cuisine's out of their attractive boxes and put it in a old cruddy brown paper lunch sack (one that's been used) and hope the theif doesn't look inside.

My Stuffed Cabbage Lean Cuisines never get stolen - I eat one of those instead. And it's not even WHAT they stole, it's a thief of any kind that feels entitled to something that clearly doesn't belong to them that just boils my blood! No one seems to care either. I mean, they sympathize, but management has an "oh well" attitude about it.
My name is written on my lunch's, if you are hungry, didn't bring lunch, etc - all you have to do is ask - I'll gladly give it to you. It's not like you don't know who's it is!
Adam, I like your idea, however - they'd just take the ones that don't have that written on them.
I thought about taking one of those pizzas and carefully opening it, lifting the pizza and putting a frozen mouse under it. Or maybe make mousicle sandwiches.
They even go into people's lunch boxes, eat some of it and put the rest back in. It's pretty bad.

Raj, we have cameras all over the office, but none in the break room. And we have staff that works nights and weekends, so that would be a lot of hours to watch to find someone stealing my lunch.
We DID have a manager fired for stealing a honey bun off someone's desk a few months back! But there were witnesses. People thought it was the dumbest thing to get fired over a honey bun - but the point wasn't WHAT was stolen, just the fact that something WAS stolen with a blatant disregard for what anyone thought. If you'd steal a $.50 honey bun, what else will you steal?

Re: What Would You Do?
I had that crap happen..It is pretty low..Especially when you find out later it was the person who makes more than you do, and could afford to buy their own lunch...
Sodas are the worst to disappear from the workplace fridge. I had an ex-coworker who stole my picture frames from my desk!!!
Sodas are an easy fix though.. :) Take a break about just before lunch, go in and shake up a booby trapped soda..Let them open that bad boy!
As far as booby trapping the food...
I know Deals (everything for a $1 store) has these window alarms. They have batteries, and operate with magnets. You attach one side of the alarm to the wall, and one side to the window..when the window is slid to separate the two magnets, it emits a high pitched squeal...That, or I'd place a mouse trap, fake puke, snake poop, a roach, a dead mouse, dead rat that had popped open, brown recluse, or something equally as pleasant, in the seemingly unopened lunch.
Wonder if that could be a lawsuit?

Get a lunch box that you can fit a small padlock on. I know it's silly, but a little investment and you should be able to stop thinking about whether your lunch is stolen. It would be worth it to me. =)
Either that or get a little fridge for your office (if that's allowed).

Re: What Would You Do?
Don't have to worry about sodas being stolen, we have soda fountains (like the ones in convenience stores) for free soda.
Cass, I usually run up to the Kroger by the job and buy 2 weeks worth of Lean Cuisines and keep them in the freezer - never had a problem doing this in the other business unit I worked in (same company).
I don't have the freezer space at home to keep them and bring one a day to work. We, on the other hand at work, have tons of freezer space - five fridge/freezer combos.
We have a lot of temps that work in this business unit (manufacturing) and I think it must be the nature of the beast.

Re: What Would You Do?
Hmm... already a lot of good suggestions. How about opening up the package to expose the food then placing a post it inside stating "Licked for my protection".
Sorry, just reliving my youth when I had to compete with my siblings. :P My sister would actually spit on her meal to prevent us from eating it, but I think if I did that *I* wouldn't want to eat it either.

Re: What Would You Do?
Find a way to incorporate a nice dose of ex-lax into one of the meals and you shall soon find out who the culprit is....This person may think 2wice before trying it again.
We had someone stealing hamburgers at our factory. The person who kept having them stolen decided to find several cigerette butts off of the ground, put the nasty tobacco on the hamburgers and then put a piece of cheese on it and microwaved the cheese onto the hamburger. They dissapeard again....but that was the last time.
We also had someone taking this girls slim jims out of her lunch. She couldnt catch who it was so she bought Dog Jerky, puparoni's I believe it was called, and replaced them in the slim jim container. Well, they continued to dissapear. She thought it was funny that they were eating dog jerky so she kept doing it for several weeks. After a while she had to quit because she said it was putting a dent in her purse....
I know of a couple of others, but they are not age appropriate here....lol

Re: What Would You Do?
I'd make a tasty-lookin sandwhich...but instead of using mayo or mustard, use some wasabi sauce with some type of strong laxative mixed into the paste. Or you could make one of those pocket type sandwhiches and fill it with dead bugs like raches or throw a coupla mice in the blender and use that for filling instead. however, NOTHING can top what Adam said.....he almost made me pee myself laughing!!!!

Re: What Would You Do?
Some1 was stealing mine here too. WE can't have cameras w/o a permission/approval tag from an upper mgmt and security.
I'd do something like Adam's suggestion, or Aunt Matilda's brownies. Doesn't have to Ex-Lax, something JUST as unpleasant...Chinese mustard, wasabi, something like that.:D
When it happened to me, I'd end of having to go w/o during my 12.5 hrs. shift. So nail 'em however you can!!!!

Re: What Would You Do?
put mouse turd in it. that should be gross enough
-
Re: What Would You Do?
Find the person and yell at them. Then make jokes about them at how what a low life and how poor they must be to have to steal lunch from co-workers.
-
Re: What Would You Do?
So, I've been thinking about this - what I think I'm going to do is buy a couple of the same meals that get stolen, let them sit out for 2 or 3 days at room temperature, then re-freeze them and let them have at it! LOL
-
Re: What Would You Do?
Yay! Get that loser :)
Someone around my work steals things from people's desks; people can be such lowlives.

The only thing about this is if this person was to get severly sick, or possibly croak..........
I dont know to many laws, but purposely doing this knowing something could seriously happen to him/her, could be a crime.
Not that the person does not deserve to be taught a lesson.....Just might be a little severe!

Re: What Would You Do?
I was thinking about your food thingy. I think you should get a tasty food item in a foil container and hook up an electrical shock device

Re: What Would You Do?
Some people are real jerk's ,me I'd love to find out who's doing it then they would get what they deserve. My fav Idea would be to use the mice , reason being when the perpatrator open's the meal someone else would most probably see. Then the gossip would start then you'd find out.Another good reason for the mice would be the good laugh everybody would get from thinking this weirdo would eat mice.Remember this meal is suppose to be his/her's.

This is actually the one I'm most likely going to go with! LOL

Re: What Would You Do?
I would Choc xlax the lunch you wanted them to steal. a good dose. or find out who it is in a little time and offer them a whole plate of xlax brownies............lol they wont ever take your food again.
I use this method for stray or freed dogs who get into my trash cans. The offending dogs are wtched better and closer after by their owners.
