It all depends, but they can max out at 10-12 feet I suppose.

Futo-don't know anything about him, sorry.

It depends on the individual, could be 9ft-10ft. Some have reached 12ft-14ft. It comes down to the individual and her feeding schedule, food size, temps, etc.

I would talk to Gus at Rio Bravo reptiles. He has a picture somewhere of a 12' Suri wrapped around his leg. He has dealt with them long enough he would probably have a good idea.
    Good Luck

10ft plus.... not everything gets to 12 or 14ft, but once boas hit 6ft, they tend to grow rather slowly from that point on.

After the whole TSE fiasco, I'm really hesitant ordering from a distributor rather than a breeder. Rio Bravo though has an awesome Peruvian redtail though that Im really hoping that I'll get.

For BCC's I would go with Gus at RioBravo hands down.

LLL is great, I've bought a few supplies from them here and there throughout the years, but never any snakes. When buying animals it's best to stick with and buy direct from a breeder rather than a distributor, just my $0.02.

Carmen is from LLL, but I'll probably buy from a breeder next time, just because they are the ultimate specialist...folks like Gus and Gerry, etc. really know and love their boas! =)

Size max for female suri's, the research I've done says 8-10' on average. I'm guessing those 12-14' are monsters and not the average.

Or at least, I *hope* not the average! =D

After doing a lot of looking last night I found a pair of peruvian boas that Jeff Ronne has. They stay smaller than surinames from what I've seen and they're a little less sensitive.

I have always heard peruvians are one of the largest BCC localities. I have a picture of a 12' peruvian on my computer.

    Re: BCC Female size
peruvians are still bcc if you want somethin a little smaller than that i would go with a bci and if you are going with a bcc for the color you can buy a bci morph like a hypo , or salmon for under 300 if you look around at 06's.

    Re: BCC Female size
You're right, I was looking at the 2 localities on Rio Bravo and it says they are the largest but the Pulcallpa locality is usually smaller than average. Which was the locality of the snake that he had that I liked. I guess that puts a hole in my plans. I considered a hypo BCI but I really didn't like them. The BCCs to me are so much nicer looking and I really don't care which type I get as long as its a BCC.

    Re: BCC Female size
BCIs can reach 10' as well. When buying any boa (except perhaps hog islands or other dwarf insular boas) you have to be prepared for the chance of your snake reaching a large size. Even male BCI can weigh 25lbs or more. A male BCC can grow to 8'.. maybe more too.

    Re: BCC Female size
I know of someone from a different fourm that has a male at just under 9' and 40 lbs and thats a BCI. They grow over there entire life so they will get bigger and bigger but at a slower pace. Good luck with your search and check local laws. I know over here in Omaha we have laws against snakes that can get over 8' so no bcc for us. I expect to have a permit in the next few years before either of my boas get even close to 8'

Ok, I know it feels like Im going through all the different BCC's but I think I found one that I like and fits my criteria. I'm looking at a pair of North Brazilian BCC's. From what I've read the average size is under 8' and they are among the calmest redtails. Can anyone comment on this.

I love all red tails myself. Do you have any experience?

Not with boas but I have a ball python. I know that BCI's are the natural next step up as far as boas, but since Im taking care of them for the next 20 years. I might as well get what I want.

Well if you have someone that can come and help you whenever your holding your boa just in case something happens in a few more years and having a rather large (6' by 2' minimum for a male)cage then I would go ahead with it and get a BCC that you really like. Its not always easy to find someone to watch your large constrictor while your out of town and it will be a lot of responsibility. Good luck in whatever you choose

    Re: BCC Female size
The 2 brazilians that Im looking at don't have very red tails. I thought I read that the redness there born with is as good as it gets, is that true.

    Re: BCC Female size
Brazilians are one of the lesser reds of the true redtails, if that makes sense..lol. They usually don't have the bolder tails either, but rather smaller red saddles. Surinames have they best tail in my opinion.

Scroll through this page to look at pictures of True Brazil's: Click Here
They are after the Venezualians (sp?).
Read that page too. Gus is the man of the boa world, there isn't much about true reds that he doesn't know, if any.

Edit: Is this the pair you are talking about: Click Here Because if it is, they are Northern Brazils. BCC, and quite a good looking pair too. Gus's pics are the very top notch ones, but those in the latter link are what they usually look like. Pretty.

    Re: BCC Female size
I agree on suris having the reddest tails.. although some of the light peruvians with the yellow on back and gemlike red saddles are very stunning.. I like the iquitos peruvians especially. Beautiful.

The thing about suris is there are many breeders and a wide selection for buyers.. you're sure to find one that you find very pretty.

    Re: BCC Female size
Yes that is the pair Im looking at. I guess Gus's quality photos throw me off as far as what to expect. Although the parent looks very nice. I've read about every single page on Gus's site as far as the different species. Would the Brazilians be worth it to try and breed. They're about the only boa that I would consider breeding since there is so many of the other types on the market.

Not sure, I haven't really done any research on them. They are nice, but not as nice as some. They have a better temperament though, than say most other BCCs.

Link didn't work right, click on size of a boa for an interesting read.

If you restrain the snake from feeding too much during this time, you will avoid the risk of getting a boa that you may consider to be too large for keeping it until its demise.
Not too sure about this part though. It sounds too much like the myth

Keep your boa in a smaller cage and it won't grow too much
