    smallest boa?
i'm trying to find out the smallest type of boa...
so far with my research it seems the kenyan sand boa (males) only get around 15".

anyone know any other boas that are around this size or smaller?
    THANKS in advance!

rosy boas are beautiful and only get around 2-3 feet (2 foot for males and 3 for females). my favorite is the coastal rosy boa.

Male kenyans can stay in a 10 gallon tank size cage their entire life. Roughscaled sand boas are only marginally bigger.

Rubber boas are a little less common and usually stay around 14-18"

thank you all for replying so fast! i think i'll definitely be getting a kenyan sand boa. does any one know any good sites to purchase them? I'm really looking to adopt, so even better if someone can direct me to a site...I've tried a few and didn't have much luck.

    THANKS SOO MUCH AGAIN!

I don't think you'd have an easy time finding a kenyan sand boa adoption.. they aren't that common.

I got mine from Jason Hess at Jason's Jungle http://www.jasons-jungle.com/ He's a real nice guy to do business with.

I'd wait to a show to get one if I were you. They are nice snakes, but they are a preference snake. They resemble large worms to me and don't get very big at all, about two feet is it. Rubber and Rosy Boas get about 3ft and there is many more distinct designs and locales to choose from too.

I'd hit a show or two and check em out, both kinds, and then figure out which to get.

    Good luck!

We got Oreo, our Kenyan anery @ the local herp show in Eugene from a breeder called Snakes of Ra. VERY good escape artists. Took her a couple of months but she managed to squiggle out from under the lid 2x. Luckily we were able to find her, but I'm happy she'll be able to live in her 10g tank for her "forever" home.

April's pic of her two is what hooked me on getting an anery. My daughter calls Oreo our little "earf worm" :D We just love her :wuv:

actually...they are cute to me...and it's great that they get under two feet. I'd prefer a smaller boa, although the rosies are indeed attractive, I'd rather go for the smaller one (easier to sneak past your RA ;) ).

The only escape I have ever had (not counting corn snake babies when I was 8 years old) was my anery sand boa. He only went about two feet away though and slept behind the curtains. lol

hahahaha ya a kiss... that's what they call it LOL

    kiss of death perhaps LOL

my little one has such a hard time shedding... i had him soaking in a container today and would take him out removing his shed... he's been waiting to shed for a few weeks and just can't seem to get it off no matter how high i get the humidity in his tank. so i've changed his substrate to aspen from carefresh as i've heard sand is not good for them.

    hope this helps!

    Re: smallest boa?
    RG,

I'd be especially careful to latch all along the edges. We had one clip on each long side, & once Oreo got bigger, she was able to lift and get underneath the lip enough to get out. The first time I found her she was inside some laundry I had been sorting on the floor. I found her as I was putting it into the washer (w/o water). Geeeeez!!!! That was a close one!

The next time she had escaped Robin found her in my closet, across the room from her tank. My bedroom isn't very large at all, but for her to slithered that far, and w/o the cats getting her, was VERY lucky indeed..and probably extremely tiring for her, since she didn't move much Robin picked her up. Now there are two clips on either long side of the lid, offset a bit to REALLY clamp the lid down.

I'm always finding her squeezed up under the lid like Play-Doh. I'm in the habit of looking underneath first, before opening the lid, because if I don't I knock her out and she falls. I don't imagine the light stunning (repeatedly) is very good for her. Now that I know where her hiding place is, I look before opening her tank.

BTW, I've gotten her shed a couple of times, but don't have a clue if she's pooing. How often should I change the aspen?
