    Bad News! Warning; Graphic Picture.
Well, first off the odds Gods threw me a curve ball, and only gave me 1 Albino out of 7 eggs. One egg went bad after two weeks of incubation. So the results were one Albino out of 6 viable eggs. This breeding was from an Albino male to a Het. Albino female. Odds say I should have gotten 3 Albinos. Well, I was at least happy with hatching one, especially since this was the first morph that was going to hatch at our facility. As some of you know, I work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, and won't be home until Thursday. My wife is kind enough to send me pics of major happenings in the snake room while I am at work. When I called her this morning, she had bad news for me. The pic below will help explain it. As of right now, the Albino is still alive, but is only half out of the egg. Talk about a kick in the Jewels. Hopefully I got all of my bad luck out of the way for this season. I know in the pic, the one thing you cannot see is that it is missing it's right eye all together. Sometimes breeding snakes can be very humbling. I know we see alot of great things, but this is a reminder that with the good comes the bad. Here is the pic.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck Tim. I hope your other clutches this season make up for it, and soon.

Ok, this is really weird. A buddy of mine just hatched out a Het Albino that hatched w/o its eyes or the top jaw. It died a day later.
Is this an egg problem or a genetic problem? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Weird coincidence me hearing about this twice in one week, and having never heard of it before.

sorry tim, i know how you feel, we hatched a female pastel this year, runt at 35 grams and a major kink in the neck right behind the head... stuff happens and it most certainly humbles you. i'm just happy that overall everything is good.

Ken, I have talked to Sean at Exotics by Nature, which is where the Albino and Het female came from. He has not hatched anything like this from his Albino projects to date. That would tell me that it is not a genetic thing, but more than likely just bad luck. All of the Hets in this same clutch are fine. Thanks for the kind words everyone, as this has been a hard cookie to swallow.

Oh Tim that is a heartbreaker! Unfortunately when we breed any creature there's always the chance of an offspring that's just not meant to survive, but it still doesn't make it any easier to accept or witness. The genetics are there, perhaps this same pair will go on over the years to produce many fine, healthy albino offspring for you, though I'm sure right now that's not much consulation for you and your wife.

Thanks for all of the pick-me-ups guys. I do have a Spider clutch that is hatching right beside these, so that is helping me stay upbeat. However, those Spiders don't want to come out of the eggs. Maybe tonight or in the morning they will grace us with their presence.

That just bites Tim! On a positive note, you've got some karma points racked up with the ball gods on that one, but if I was in your shoes I wouldn't be thinking like that either ... I'd just be pi$$ed ;) ... hang in there bro, it gets MUCH better. ;)

This is a "nature problem" ... Like Jo said, not every egg is meant to survive ... that's why they have clutches of multiple eggs instead of just one. If you breed enough and produce enough, you definitely see stuff like that ... it's just part of the game. Most of the small time guys freak out when they see stuff like that because they aren't doing enough numbers to know that it happens to everyone. But, the good out weighs the bad by so much, that in the end it doesn't matter. ;)

    ROCK ON Tim!

Thanks for the positive feedback Adam. By the way, I just got done telling the wife, that I hope I am done with the "sacrifices" for the season. I am hoping that my Hypo clutch will make up for this one.

    Update.
Well my wife went back out to the room this evening, and the Albino was dead still half in the egg. She originally went to go get it and have a friend sex it, and when she saw it dead, she cut the rest of the egg and pulled it out. I won't even be able to know if it was male or female. It doesn't really matter, but I was curious. Here it is completely out of the egg.

Thanks Neil. And yes all of the Hets appear to be healthy. My wife does not sex snakes, so I have to wait until I get home on Thursday to find out my ratio, but she said they are doing great.
