    herping at our property
we went to our 22 acres in northern california to go herpin and we saw a california toad and an unidentified rattlesnake. i think its a western rattlesnake or a western massasauga. can anyone identify it for me?

the california toad that my sister Courtney (or reptile-girl) found. please excuse the helmet hear, we were riding dirtbikes all day.

i actually did see a fence lizard but i didnt think to get a shot of it.

BTW, i did actually get bit by a baby rattler about a month and a half ago. i was holding him behind his head and my grip was too loose. he hooked around and got me with one fang at the tip of my middle finger. im not EVER holding a rattlesnake (atleast until im a 'real' herpetologist:P  ).
    here's another good one:

Wow! Awesome pics! Some of those definitely fall into the "Don't try this at home" category....at least for us nevous mother-types. ;) (I'd probably be doing the same thing if it was me out there....but would smack my kids upside da head if I ever saw them doing it! :P )

(And NO, I don't really smack my kids!)

I would have to agree with Judy about the nervous mother type, even though I used to send my parents thru the roof when I brought home copperheads. I don't know what I would do if the grandkids were to do the same.
    Great pics, thanks for sharing.:D
