One of my babies might be retarded.

I noticed some strange head movement from this girl yesterday when I was setting her up in her tank. Keeping her head usually tilted up, I figured she is probably dizzy or something possibly like that. Today checking quickly on the babies, I notices more stange head movement from her. She was rolling her head back all the way, even resting back on her neck for a second or two, exposing the underside of her chin. It seemed uncontrollable but I would not call is a spasm, maybe it took 8 seconds for a full rotation. Does anyone know what is wrong with her? Is it something permanent and mental, or a horrible internal problem. I think I will learn alot more about her quality of life if I get her to eat or not. I'm looking to get a vet appt. soon.

Maybe it's stargazing? I've read something about that kind of behavior. It's some sort of neurological disorder. If it continues I would definitely see a vet.

Wow now I am really freaking out. I think she has IBD. I will separate her immediately tomorrow morning. I would call her highly disoriented the the conditions high worsened over the 24 hour period I had her. I think I will have to euthanize her. I am immediately going to move the other four females away from the hets.

Did you quarintine this snake at all since you have had her? Or is this a baby you produced? Dont totaly freak out until your vet give you his diagnoses.Seperate her now if you have not quaritined her at all its not worth the chance if it is IBD.I have a freind who produced some boas last year and one had a bend in its neck,its doing great last i heard.Keep us posted on what the vet says.

Yeah Cubby Keep that girl seperate from the rest. Another house would be optimal. Damn if it wasnt so late I would offer a hand. You do only live a couple miles east of me you know. But anyway. not real sure, but it may be a problem in the nervous system? does the head kind of sway around and not stay in one place? always have a tilt or angle on it? never really flat or still?

It was certainly IBD. Her condition this morning was horrendous. She had lost a alot mroe weight overnite and her whole belly was an awful concave. She had even less control over her head and body. I thought she was gonna die right in my hands. Sadly I put her down. I knwo it was the best thing though all cases of IBD die.

Oh geez! How sad and how frightening! What steps are you going to take to make sure it doesn't spread to the rest of your collection? If I remember right, you got this baby in an order with several others, yes? How are they? Are they now completely away from your established collection? Have you contacted the person you bought them from?

Without a biopsy and lab work, I'm not sure how you can say it was certainly IBD. Doesn't sound like that to me.

Sounds to me like it is more likely symptoms of severe starvation. Was this one of those less than 50 gram females that some "reputable seller" shipped you?

If it was/is IBD, the chances of other ball pythons that she was near/around/in close contact with also having/getting the disease and dying soon are extremely high. If she came in with a group of other animals, I would still make that vet appointment.

This one weighed 50 grams, the other two lighter ones look fine. I am going to get a vet appt for the four babies. They are now in a separate room on a separate floor 3 doors away from the hets. From the second I got the hets, I always had cared for them first and then the babies, washing every time between touching anything.

They are in a different house from my collection more than a mile away. The others look fine, but are now under a very close eye. I contacted the person, he said he can't really do much, he guaranteed live arrival and they arrived alive, and I only ordered four and I got a freebie, I guess this was the freebie. He said he would never had sent it out if he thought something was wrong.

You have got to be kidding me? A snake starves to death in front of your eyes two days after shipment and the seller won't stand behind the animal? Tell the seller that the freebie is doing fine and you want a refund on the one that you paid for that just died!

That story just about made me cry..:(....I couldn't imagine if something like that ever happened to me. It was a real "eye opener" as well, as I will continue to reasearch ailiments and diseases of BPs that I don't already know.

OK my collection is in my house. The hets and babies are in another house over a mile away. The babies are in the first floor, in an unused bathroom. The hets are three doors (meaning like doors you open, not houses next door) away and up stairs on the second floor.
This is what I sent the breeder.
Clearly this is rediculous. I want a refund for the snake I paid for. Not to mention I had to spend over $20 extra to accomadate an extra snake I was not aware I was recieving. The fact that you can send me a snake is such an ill condition is horrible and you need to give me a refund.

She was fine leaving here, and I guaranteed live arrival. You told me she had a little trouble moving her head, that was all. I even sent you a free snake. Consider that a replacement. There was no reason to spend $20 extra on accomodations. That is not in my hands. I spent $1.50 on a shoebox rack cage for each of my snakes, not $20.

Cubby could you please pm me this persons name so i can add him to my not deal with list.Like Adam said you can not verify it was IBD unless you have a autopsy done.Basicly he sent you a snake to make him feel proud of himself knowing well enough something was wrong with it:mad: .This is the type of person that makes honest people look bad!!! I think i know who it is though and if it is him i will not be shocked.

Wow, this whole thing is unbelievable. Any reputable seller would sympathize with you, and offer at least a refund. Sounds like he had an unhealthy hatchling he wanted to dispose of, and sent it your way. Shame on such a poor businessman, and I hope you get somewhere should you pursue this.

Cubby I sent you a PM with that information. I hope this helps you with the other BPs. You have to get them all checked out if possible. At least the others that where exposed in any fashion to the sick BP.
