This is a pic of my pos. het pied female. I'm told that it's not a sure thing so I don't get my hopes up but she's too young to prove it yet.

I don't know if that is the marker or not, but from all my reading, I would say that the "marker" can appear on normals.

I've always heard that the marker is far from a deciding factor and many normals have shown it as well. That said my two WC ringers have it as well as my 100% het pied male.

    Re: het pied marker?
I was talking with Chris Simone one day and he said that the marker often means nothing. People get hung up on the marker and there's usually nothing to it. He told me the only sure way to get a het pied is to buy from a breeder with a good reputation. Mine was bought from a guy that said he thought it was het pied but wasn't sure. He sold it to me for $75 so obviously he didn't spend big bucks on it in the first place so the likelihood of it being het anything is a joke. I was simply saying that just because it has the marker doesn't mean it's a het. She's a beautiful snake though and has an awesome personality AND eats f/t so I got my money's worth! In a couple of years I will breed her to my het weird and see what comes out.

This is my het pied male. He has some of the marker-look to him. I don't take much interest in het pied markers......UNLESS they are the 'special' het pied marker ;)

These freakin spiders and pastels are HOT!!! ...and even the normal het pieds look cool. I hope PK has some stuff in the works this year ;)

Thanks Daniel! Do you notice a correlation in "buggier" eyes in het pieds? Seems like lots of het pieds has this feature. You should really stop screwing around and sell me that het pied male of yours! Those het pied spiders are SWEET :D

    Re: het pied marker?
I wonder how many people have bred Pieds or Het Pieds to normals with the pied marker? If so, have they ever hatched out a Pied, or do most people assume that the marker doesn't mean much because a lot of normals have it? Maybe the Pied gene is more common than people think?

LOL he looks normal but Chris labeled him as het weird because he was reported by the previous owner to be in a litter with an all white snake or possibly a pied. Chris bought both of the parents from this guy so they threw in this baby for free. Chris gave this snake to another guy who was supposed to prove him out for Chris because Chris was busy concentrating on his definites but instead the guy sold him to me. It was kind of a shady deal all the way around. I've been in constant contact with Chris and I promised him I would breed him next season and see what comes out. If it turns out to be nothing, fine but if it does, I will give Chris a female out of the litter. I hope it turns out to be something cool because Chris has been such a big help to me I would love to give something back. Neither of us is holding our breath though LOL.

    Re: het pied marker?
I wanna say I remember Adam posting that "there is no proof that markers really mean anything". Pieds are so weird anyway. If I understand the gene correctly, high-white pied parents can yield low-white pied kids - there's no rhyme or reason, it's just random craziness.

Personally, the longer I look at Cleo, the more I can also convince myself I see all sorts of visible "markers" or possible morphs (yellow belly, cinny, blah blah blah), hehe...but I know she's just our pretty normal girl. =)
