The best set-up for BPs

Im getting ready form my little female to come in from Ben Siegel, and I want to change my set ups but I have no clue what would be best. I also want to start to use news paper but I fear that with the heating pads it would get way to hot.

could use some ideas.

Right now I have my balls in two 45 gal reptile tanks.

I JUST switched my BP from a glass tank to a plastic tub. Already, the temps are more under control, and the humidity is actually a bit too high...I need to open the lid and let it "air out" a bit...and that's just after one quick mist of the newspaper. (Keep in mind, this is Tucson, where the ambient humidity in the house is about 20%! :O )


Your UTHs won't get too hot, so long as you have them hooked up to a reliable T-stat...or at the very least, a dimmer switch from the hardware store. It doesn't matter what kind of enclosure or substrate you have, you have to have some sort of control on those!

Melt a few extra holes with a soldering iron and you will be gold - i havent had to mist anything in plastic to date - maybe a slight nudge of the waterbowl at best.

All my balls are on newsprint and it's incurred zero problems in terms of efficiency as substrate. I used to worry about the "lack of traction" but that wound up being a moot point.

I'm gonna hold off on making extra holes at this point, and just take a few days to see if I can find a balance of humidity without having to do that. When I put the whole thing together, I misted out of habit, although not nearly as much as I did in the glass tank. I think that may have been unnecessary. So once that dries completely, I'll see how the humidity holds on its own before adjusting the holes.


I've got high hopes for this tub, though. It's ugly as anything, but if she's happy in it, then I'M happy!

im in South Agusta GA, and in the house it is 40% humidity at this moment.

Do you have the two males housed together? Or am I interpreting everything wrong?

Plastic Rubbermaid or Sterelite type tubs will be so much easier for you to maintain.

You'll fall in love with that tub Judy! They aren't pretty but very efficient and easy as all get out especially for managing humidity. I was a long time aspen girl but having switched to newspaper in our BP tubs and it's all it's cracked up to be...way easier to keep the tub spotless! Sometimes all it's takes to tweek that humidity is a bigger or smaller water dish or moving it from one place in the tub to another (or melt a few more holes if need be).

Both males are in there own cage.

Of course by now, most everyone knows how I feel about tubs! :wuv: :love:

Karl and I are looking at your rack, and I was telling Karl that you had two of the same kind I have stacked.

He really liked how you have your cards for each of the snakes and was commenting on how professional it looks.

(Hey, any interest he shows in the ball pythons, I'll take! LOL)

Pretty is only pretty Vaughn....that rack is sexy and that way trumps pretty any day lol.

thanks robin, i used little hooks to hang some of the cards and then switched to binder clips. the clips come in colors too! lol


so, you'll were looking at my rack? lol my wife usually has to deal with that! lol

Where did you get a rack like that and how do you heat it ... Im looking for something like that...:D

rich v. at www.herpenclosures.com makes them. i really like them, solid pvc not expanded or lightweight material. no bowing,sagging,sticking tubs or uneven tub gaps. not the cheapest but worth every penny, imo.


the heat is flexwatt, it is built in to the racks. a proportional stat and you are set. no problems.

A proportional tstat AND tubs! It doesn't come with the tubs! LOL Best investment I ever made though!

thanks robin, yeah tubs are not incuded. you can get them at target/walmart or rich's shop if you are local and can swipe them! lol

Thanks all, I might use the rack idea, my husband is working on something too but he wont let me see. If what he makes fails then Im going with the rack.
