I am so discouraged/mad...
Well, we had a clutch of 8 eggs in May.. only two survived, the others ended up turning orange/green, smelling bad and dying.
Now the second last one is doing this too; I just about cried when I looked into the incubator today seeing this. The other egg looks fine, still denty but nice and white; but I am just so freaking mad now. My incubator is a Little Giant (like a hovabator) and it keeps the temps great; I have 2 thermometers in the rubbermaid I keep the eggs in, inside the inc. I am using moist vermiculite like I should be, keeping it moist but not sopping wet, and the humidity is fine; what the %$#@ is going on here.
I am so discouraged right now. :rainon:

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Sorry to hear things haven't gone well. I hope your one egg hatches for you!

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
They both candled good, nice red veins visible in the shells, about 2 days ago. I always wear rubber gloves when I handle them; I am that paranoid about bacteria. I know that even chicken eggs, with their hard shells, can get bact infections if you even blow on them, so i am careful... grrr.
Thanks for your posts so far; I feel a little better already :)

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Gin...I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing NEAR you when I say this, but LOL...you're on your way to being a pro herp breeder!
We ALL have perfect eggs that turn from sugar to shi...er, doodee at some point or another, for a multitude of reasons. Yes, it sucks to high heaven, but you are NOT alone.
If it makes you feel any better, I had one of my favorite females lay ONE good egg yesterday...all the rest were crap. Everything was dialed in perfectly (or so I thought), but she schooled me otherwise.
This is all part of breeding snakes, hon. "Some will, some won't, so what." I know it's probably small consolation at the moment, but this sort of stuff really is just par for the course at some point or another.
Hang in there!!!!!!!!

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Ditto what Kara said ... I just threw 6 moldy eggs in the garbage this morning ... Sadly, they're just not all meant to survive.
You'll do better next year for sure! ;)

Words of wisdom right there! I think we all forget that this isn't a perfect science and just because we make things as perfect as humanly possible, sometimes the BP gods will just take a giant crap on ya! Hang in there Gin!

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Sorry to hear about the clutch.
I wish you luck on the single egg. This might be your Golden Child.
KLG is right, this is the way to the big leagues.
It sucks but its true.
I will pray for the lone egg.

Talk to Kev about that, huh? He usually hucks them out back for the crows to eat...if a retic clutch goes bad, it looks like some f'd up sadistic easter bunny has been here to visit...
Sigh...

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Thanks; you guys have improved my mood a hundred fold. Here are a few pics, although my camera batt was dying I snapped these. Top is the egg that is still viable; the other has to be a deader, right?

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
Hang in there Gin, everyone has bad times. Lets just hope you get at least one nice, healthy baby bp. And even if you dont get it this year, you will be more experienced next year and maybe you'll get a full clutch of healthy bp's!https://ball-pythons.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gifI'm prayin that the good one hatches out.:please:

Re: I am so discouraged/mad...
It will get better.
I had my het pieds breed for the first time last year (after waiting for 3 years for the female to finally get up to size) and got 3 duds.
Extremely depressing.
It will get better for you though the more you breed.
It always bites when you see duds or ones that go bad but just think how pleased you will be when the little head pops out of that good egg. (And don't dump the other just yet).
