Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
A local breeder/dealer has an absolutely gorgeous albino burm male for sale at a very good price and while I want this thing so bad, I have to admit the adult size makes me slightly nervous. I'm a pretty big guy (6'7", 280) so I'm not too worried about it being able to cause bodily harm to me which isn't much of a concern anyway given their generally good temperment. I also own my own home and live alone so space is not much of a concern. I'm pretty confident that I could give this snake a good home, but I'd really like to see a picture of a 12'-15' burm (preferably an albino) next to something that can give a good reference to its size. My only experience is with balls, except for a BCI that I years ago. The BCI left with my ex when it was only about 4ft though. Thanks in advance to anyone who can put up a pic for me.

I wouldn't say that just because your big a burm couldn't cause bodily harm. I large burm is pretty strong and if it wanted too could more than likely take you out without much of a problem. I can give you a few links in a minute.

You could potentially have a 16-17' male that weighs in at over 100 lbs. If you feel that you are ready to take one in, make sure you can take it for his whole life. Rescues are already flooding with unwanted and neglected burms. Good luck in what ever you decide and keep up updated
Heres a link of a pretty good size burm.

Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
Yeah I agree.. I don't care how strong you are, a 100lb burmese python can overpower you.
An adult burm should be handled by at least two people.. it just isn't safe to handle one on your own. Yes, they are typically very docile, but still burms are wild animals and they have a killer feeding response as well.
The only pics I have are of my 1 year old male burm.. but he's only 6'.
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
Handling could be a problem then. I only know a handful of people who are comfortable enough with snakes to assist me with handling and all of them live 1/2 hour or more from me. I am well aware of their potential size (hence my interest in a male rather than a female), but I've never seen a snake that size actually laid out. I've seen 6-8 footers and I've seen 20', 200 pound females, but not much in between.
As far as giving it a lifelong home. If I do get this snake, it will live out its life in my care. That is why I'm giving this the level of consideration that I am.
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
Sounds like you are doing some good research there.
The only flaw I am seeing so far is the lack of a partner. That is really key in owning a large snake. Even if the snake is a puppy like our late and famose "Merlin" the 17ft male. Believe me nicest burm I have ever met, I don't believe in his entire time here with us he even once struck at us, heck even during feeding times. But none the less a good rule of no single person opening his enclosre, even to insert the water hose to his pool. 2 person rule is a must.
If you happen to have any other questions please feel free to pm me or just post them here.

The extra person is one thing that I hadn't really taken into consideration until you guys mentioned it. I do not have someone that I could count on to assist me on a regular basis so it looks like I'll be passing on the burm. I'd still like to eventually get at least one larger snake. Maybe I'll look for a nice BCI or BCC. Here's the burm I was looking at getting though...

Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
psssssssst....
if you want big snake presence & personality w/o giant snake size, consider bloods & short-tailed pythons. ;)
They're AWESOME!

Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
I was looking at the bloods (I really like the red albinos), they are just a bit more difficult to find good info on. What is the average length for a adult female blood? I've heard anywhere from 6' to 9'.
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
Maybe you could find someone from this or another forum that lives near you that could help you when you needed it?
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
I'll second the blood python suggestion!
9' would be monstrously huge for a blood. Red bloods average 3-5'.. 6' isn't unusual. They can weith 30+ lbs though. Awesome animals. They look better and better as they age.

You know I wander what the second person is going to do anyway if a 17ft 200 pound snake decides to constrict one of you. I dont think there would be much the other person could do in time. I just always wonder that. They are nothing but mucsle.

I know personally that when/if I ever do get a burmese it will be a male so the odds of it getting to 17ft and 200 lb are pretty darn slim. For a large female I'd agree that it probably would be difficult even with two people. I have heard of people keeping vodka nearby. I guess you can splash it on the snake or something and it helps to get them to release.
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
Nah- I think the vodka is for the person getting constricted...lets them enjoy their last minutes on earth
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
The alcohol thing works well from what I have heard. Vinager also works. A little dash of either and the snake should let go.
Re: Anyone have a good size reference pic of a male burm?
yup if your partner has the chance when your being constricted to get to the mouth he should pour vodka down ther and they will let go. I saw it on a show on animal planet called the BIG squeeze where this uy got constricted by his burm because he got done playing with his chinchilla and didnt wash his hands and went to chnge the water in the snake cage.

I knew I wasn't imagining things! :)

I saw that on Animal planet too. There was another one where a retic that hadn't eaten in months tried to kill the guy. They started to stab the snake to get it to let go. How stupid
