3/8th's of an inch is not very thick all things considered - very good chance the shelves will start sagging under the weight of the tubs, making them hard to open & close.

I use 3 different styles of AP's rubbermaid & sterilite racks (1/2" thick) and they work very very well. The lower tubs fit snugly, but not to the point of being a PITA. When dealing with *any* rack that's not going to have support in between each tub, thicker, sturdier material is a benefit!

AP cages and racks are great ... Another option is metal racks ... I'm a HUGE fan of Freedom Breeder racks ... In my humble opinion for whatever it's worth, if you can afford them, there is nothing better. ;)

I wholeheartedly second that - you definitely get the most bang for the buck with Freedom Breeder if you're looking for extensive rack systems. They are investment quality & built to LAST! :D

Amazing racks Adam and Kara!!

Sevo. In my limited experience I can suggest to would with the thickest material within reason for the best longevity. I am using MDF at 3/4 with good luck. I know people with 1/2 MDF with bad luck.

for plastic racks i like rich v. at www.herpenclosures.com his site may be getting a facelift? these are solid pvc, not expanded or foam core. i have stood on and worked on top of these racks the are very sturdy and precision made. i got the chance to visit his shop and see the cnc router in action! cool stuff if you are a tool geek! lol
