    Blood Python Medusa aka "Succubus"
My favorite piece is still Urutu, but this one is Karen's fave so far ;) Thanks for all your help, Shelby!

I liked the little "Thrall" rat so much, I made a doofy icon of 'em. Maybe I'll use it come October or something. ;)

I like Succubus! It fits. It's definitely perfect for a blood python! So what's on tap for the next one?

I love anything Medusa, but my idea of Medusa is either the beauty or the beast, with the snake body, more earth tones such as browns and greens with striking green eyes. I tend to avoid bright colors. :rainon: I prefer the darker side:D You definitely are talented though!!:)

Awesome! I love it.. and Habanera approves. She says you got her skin tone right.

I like how you put the blood python eye markings on her face.

Wow Sheree another stunning piece of artwork! I have to say I adore Count Von Fuzzington. I think you need to write/do the artwork for a whole series on him....The Adventures of Count Von Fuzzington LOL

Thank you! I love the markings on the face too, it really suits :D There's also a hidden word in "Succubus"'s pattern too, inspired by that pattern pic thread. ;) I just go with whatever the particular species inspires, and I will get to some darker species as well. Wherever the muse takes me, lol.

The next one I have in the works is based on the alien looking vine snake (Oxybelis fulgidus) which I've already entitled "Oreithyia". I have some sketches together, and am probably about halfway through the penciling though it's being tricky.

I also do plan on doing a piece of the Three Gorgon Sisters, Medusa, Euryale, and Stheino (the Gorgon in the "Archery" piece, Nancy! :) Which is actually part of a story I'm writing) but I don't have the sketches for that together yet. I actually hope to do several more with Stheino inparticular, and Medusa herself.

lol, Jo! Gotta love Count Von Fuzzington! :P The icon is also up for grabs if anybody wants, I was just having fun goofing around.

You know, I thought that last tail splotch looked like an 'e'.

I bet the vine snake medusa will be very cool. I love the eyes on those snakes.

I love vine snake's eyes too, so alien and otherworldly! The blood python had a very earthy feel to me, and the vine snake is more airy which is why I named it "Oreithyia" after a nymph who was wooed/abducted by the North Wind. It'll be fun to do. :)

And thank you, Judy! BTW, we're definitely coming down to the Tuscon Expo come Sept/Oct, hope to see you there!

Yep, it says Vampire! Or at the very least "Vamp", lol, it gets kinda fuzzy in there like snake pattern messages do.

:lmao: "Mythological herping gear"! I love it! I do need to do a piece including Perseus, but as you can imagine my muses aren't terribly fond of the dude. ;) But I definitely want to do a "true to the legend" Perseus creeping up on the poor innocent sleeping Medusa at some point.

I'll PM you about the Expo, Judy!

Espeically if you use one of the more "cute" snakes as the model...something like a lovely pastel color or one of the corn morphs with their lovely softer colors. Make Medusa look very young and innocent (maybe even napping/basking)...poor thing being creeped up upon.

I love the a black/white ying yang idea too! You could use an LTR for the white and a big black milksnake or indigo as the black. Nice comment on duality in our snakes and ourselves.

Exactly! I always envision the Medusa as sweet, young, and innocent. In fact the model for her I always have in mind is Sidney Poitier's adorable daughter, Sydney.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...wl/sydney2.jpg

I also tend to think of her as Leucistic, or similarly pale/soft/maybe iridescent. No idea on the snake species yet though... but definitely something sweet and cute. I've always viewed her as a very sympathetic character, which I hope to portray in the novel that's taking 400 years

Oooh, I hadn't considered that option! I love black and white ying/yang snakes, kind of like my "Reflection" piece. :) That one's actually the closest I think I've done to the Medusa.

Oof, I spaced on responding to this one! I love the idea of a snowy LR :D Or even a LR based dragon could be cool, actually... Hmm! Also the yin-yang idea is popular, I need to roll that one around in my brain too! This forum is all kinds of inspiration, I'm eating it up! :hungry:

Thank you guys! :) Blue Gorgon is such a fantastic outlet for my obsessions, and there frankly wouldn't be a Blue Gorgon if it wasn't for ball-pythons.net. I owe a lot to these forums!

My golden boy Gomez, being able to find expos like where I got my beauties, all the helpful folks and tips, all the artistic inspiration, and the hosting for my site (Thank you TekWarren!)... now even the term "mythological herping gear" which I must resist using on a regular basis. ;)
