    New Quarantine Rack
Well, I got tired of setting up temporary Sterilite containers during quarantine, so I went ahead and built a new rack. I used one full sheet of melamine to get 5 medium slots that can also fit 10 shoebox Sterilites. I installed 3" Flexwatt in series by soldering two pair wires on each strip and connecting them using slip-on connections between shelves. This will let me shut down individual shelves depending on the number of snakes I have to quarantine.

I started off by using my CADD, drafting and engineering skills to draw out the plans:

Here's a Pic of the back of the rack showing the Flexwatt taped in:

And the slip-on connections between shelves:

Finally, the finished unit sans Sterilites:

What? Okay, no need to be shy. I'd be happy to give you a quote to design your next big construction project. It might cost more if I have to use more than a couple of post-its, though.

Nope, I don't use lids. They just get in the way and there I can't see any reason to use them in a rack setup. Although now I have stacks of Sterilite lids taking up space in the garage. I'm not sure what to do with them, but it seems like a waste to toss them.

I'll try to get a pic of the bins in the rack tonight. So far it's working out very well. The temps are spot on and the two new girls using it are feeding great.

Damn looks good man. how much does a sheet of melamine cost? and where do you get some.. for some reason i looked at lowes but maybe I am missing it???

also, do you like the holes on the side of the bin.. did you burn those or drill em out.

last question i promiss ;) , is that design how all of your racks are. The reason i am asking is I am debating how to build my next rack. I really like the way you have this one...

again looks great.. thank you for taking your time to post a pic of that rack

    Re: New Quarantine Rack
Thanks. I think the Melamine cost around $40 for a 4x8 sheet, or you can get two 2x8 sheets for around the same price. I bought it at Home Depot, but I don't think Lowes carries it.

The holes work pretty well at keeping the humidity right. During shed I'll cover them up with a strip of the blue masking tape to bump up the humidity. I used a soldering iron to melt them and I also used a template I made from a 5 Gallon paint stirring stick with holes that I drilled out. Some people have had good luck using a drill on the bins, but I cracked a couple when I tried so I switched to the soldering iron. The soldering iron is kind of a pain because you end up breathing a lot of toxic plastic fumes. :dead:

No, this is the first (and probably last) rack I'll build like this. I built another one that holds the full size 41 qt. Sterilites for my big girl. I might build another one like that, but if my collection grows beyond that I'll probably end up buying the professional racks.

Wow, how did I miss this...No I don't measure my screw holes nor do I use a template for burning holes. These kinds of things are reserved for sociopaths like xdeus and of course Adam :)
