    Hey.. New BP!
Hey everyone.. Im new to this site.. and I've been just lurking around for a few days just reading up on stuff and I've finally decided to post. I just got my first BP like 3 weeks ago, her name is Fendi and she's from a clutch last Aug. She's the runt of her clutch.. and I instantly fell in love with her curious and active personality. Anyway.. here she is <3

Welcome to the site, and glad you decided to post. It's always great when an animal catches your heart.

I see that you are using a dial to measure temps. Might I recommend a digital thermometer, because the are WAY more accurate. You can use a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer (from any chain type store) that will measure your warm and cool side temps and the humidity all in one unit for about $12. It was one of the first tips I got from this site when I joined. :D

Walmart/Target/Home Depot/Lowes. Any of them will have something similar. I have the Accurite from Walmart. Just look for one that measures the indoor and outdoor temps. :gj:

You also might want to consider ditching that half log. I had one when I started and found that it didn't provide enough security. She didn't eat as well. By offering two identical hides (and that cave is great!!) you can be sure that Fendi is choosing thermoregulation over security. ;)

Welcome to the world of bps. Did anyone warn you how addictive they are? I only planned on having one. ONE I TELL YA!! Now I have 6, and I think I'm behind on some of the other folks here. lol. :giggle:

Hi and welcome to BPNet. This is the digital deal recommended to you. The Acu-Rite brand is found at WalMart but similar ones under different brand names can be found elsewhere usually in the outdoor thermometer/weather station area. They require one AAA battery and usually run under $20.00

I would love to have a beardie, and a couple more snakes. But again..I'm waiting for that reptile room so i can build them custom cages and be able to control temps better. My bf loves chams, so who knows.. we might be getting some of those one day. I want the HUGE ones..but i doubt he'd want that. i dunno..we'll see. btw.. anyone know if its ok to keep certain lizard species in mesh cages outdoors? say if i were to get chams, if it would be ok to do that?

No. Because different species come from different places in the world and you would be introducing disease and disaster by intermingling them.

For the sake of the lizards do not mix them for outdoor play.

    Just my .02.

i think you might have misunderstood my question..maybe i should rephrase. im not asking if its ok to house them together outside.. im asking if i were to get one or two chams if it would be ok to keep them in a mesh screen cage out in my balcony? or would miami weather not be such a good idea for them?

    Re: Hey.. New BP!
I'm sure it would be fine so long as the outside temps are within their specified range and if the area where they are outside is free of outdoor insects and other animals. I know that certain insects such as lightning bugs are lethal to beardeds, and given that, I wouldn't want my chameleon to be a guinea pig so to speak as to whether or not they have ill affects on chams, know what I mean?

Other than that, they'd love it outside in some real sunlight.

OOOOOhhh I apologize, I thought you meant Blue tongue skinks and Chams or something in the ball park of that.

Miami weather is a bit silly right? Raining one minute then 105+ degrees the next?

I mean from my own personal experiences with Chameleons I would not. Most species have such strict husbandry guidelines. There is no room for error, they are so delicate. There is not much protection from the elements out there. Unless you are monitoring them the whole time they are on the balcony. I wouldn't do it. The risk is too great.

Most Chams are extremely sensitive to higher temps. I have had a friend bring me one of their Chams that was severely dehydrated and almost cooked to say the least. I asked what temps he had his enclosure at and he stated about 110-120 or so. I damn near passed out. The poor thing lost control of its motor skills, refused to eat, could not right itself anymore and died a couple days afterwards.

I would like to state that I am not a Veterinarian, nor do I work with one. I am stating my own opinions and events that led up to them. Danny ;)
