Intro post!
Hi everyone! My name is Melissa, and I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I currently own a normal cornsnake, named Naga, but am in the process of acquiring a ball python. It's a 3 year old male normal... as yet is unnamed.
I'd always said 'Meh, BPs aren't my type of snake... but this past weekend, I went to my Herp Society's show and tell and fell in love with two little BPs. The VERY next day, this fellow fell into my lap, so to speak.
He'll be coming home in the next two weeks. I've got things started for him, already, and I've got an INCREDIBLE herp society, and some great friends to help me out, since he's my first BP. And of course, now I've got this place too! :)
Here's a picture of the boy. :)

Re: Intro post!
:welcome: BPs are so impossible to resist once you hold one... just doomed from there on in, lol! This is a great herp community, welcome aboard!

:welcome: Melissa. Congrats on the new boy.
If you need anything just let us know. :D

Re: Intro post!
:welcome: Melissa! In case no one has warned you, ball pythons should come with their own warning - they can be addictive, so be prepared to fall completely head over heels over this guy! Once you've had one, you'll want more!

Re: Intro post!

Re: Intro post!
Hi Melissa and welcome to BPNet! Funny but I once thought BP's were kind of a boring snake that wasn't all that pretty and just sat there in a ball. How little did I know LOL. Even the normals (wild type) have such a lovely diversity in pattern and shading and the morphs are well...unbelievable! As far as a pet snake they in my mind can't be beat. Most have a docile temperment and are a nice sized, sturdy snake that doesn't tend to dart around much. Most of ours (we currently have 6...and yes they are addictive...we started with 1 LOL) rarely ball up at all.
The male looks fantastic! Glad you are a member of a herp group and seem to be setting everything up nicely for him. Any idea what you'll name him?

A warning would've been nice! Who'da thunk I'd fall in love with these fellers!! :) I'm glad there's a spare bedroom in this house, I can see racks going up, and it becoming a herp room!

Thanks so much for replying! At first I wasn't 'into them' mainly because of the short tail/fat body. They looked like giant worms! (I still think that of sand boas!) But after holding them and 'getting to know' them, I saw how sweet tempered and quiet they were. I'm scared that I'm going to end up like that crazy cat lady, only with snakes!!
Our Herp Society is pretty good, and very helpful. They're quite 'hands on' so it really helps a lot!
As for a name, I took a poll on my livejournal account, and in the end, I ignored everyone's votes and went for the one *I* liked the best!

Re: Intro post!
Have fun checking out some breeder pages.....you will NOT believe the morphs that come out of ball pythons. Blew me away....still does! Warning: put on a bib first as drooling on your computer can be dangerous to your well being :) (the last link....Markus Jayne is in Ontario)

Oh and they love to bug us Canadians (poor Americans being the strange folks they are ;) ). I might be married to an American and living this side of the border but I'm still a small town Canadian chick at heart. I miss decent coffee and poutine! :(
Oh before I forget - love the name you picked for your snake!

Re: Intro post!
Hi there and welcome :D
The same happened to me and started me on the road to multiple-snake-ownership. I had no feelings regarding snakes whatsoever but my daughter always wanted a BP - and the minute I held that little baby in my hands I was totally besotted with her - so much so that when my daughter moves out I'm gonna have to bribe her to leave Emily with me ;)
