Congrats Marshall, he looks very nice! I don't know a thing about these creatures...how big will he get and what does he eat? Are they nice to handle or more just for display?

ackies are great monitors. they only get about 2 feet. as hatchling they eat mostly dusted crickets and some raw ground turkey (once or twice a week). you offer them as much as they'll eat everyday until the end of the first year. as adults you scale back for maintenance and you can start offering more meats in the diet like pinky mice or chopped adult mice, but still mostly insect like crickets and roaches. they are great for a display animal and for handling. yellows are normally less aggressive then reds but i LOVE the color of red ackies and they can both be tamed. my ackie hasnt tried to bite me yet, he mostly just runs and wiggles a lot, hahahahaha.

yeah, i didnt put the second runner along the top retes stack so he could wedge himself as tight as he wanted into it. it seems to be working really well. he also has a half log that slanted into the ground that he seems to be starting a burrow in, although i had to temporarily stop construction for some pics. hahahaha.

What substrate are you keeping him on? Is that decomposed granite? That looks like a great substrate. I would LOW to get an ackie.

thats actually dirt from a dry stream bed at our property. i found that stream beds are an awesome place to look for dirt for an ackie.
