    Another adoption pending...
So I've been in contact with an adoption center in Cincinnati called Arrowhead Reptile Rescue. They got in a boa recently with some burns and rat bites along his tail. Here's a pic:

As you can see, he's got a few problems. Anyway, if all works out as planned, this guy will soon be coming to live with me. I'm pretty excited to get him home... though, I swear, this has to be my last rescue for awhile! Too many mouths to feed as is!

    P.S. Name suggestions?

Omg. WTF is wrong with people? Geez. If a snake like that came my way, I'd take it in a heart beat. I'm not allowed to have anymore, but whena guy like that comes along, I'd rather get an earful then a broken heart.

:sigh: I hate seeing stuff like that.....but it DOES warm the heart to know he is now going to a good home. How about calling him Oliver (or Ollie)...from Oliver Twist?

Oh for some reason Oliver just suits him to a T! Poor thing! How in the world can any thinking human being allow a creature to get in that shape. Just burns me right up to see that but glad he's going to you Lynne. You'll have him right as rain in no time I'm sure. Please take pics along the way. It's a good thing for people to see how wonderful these rescues can be. A lot of work, but so very worth it!

those are old burns that have been reopened due to poor care. And the bites are just not acceptable. IM glad this poor guy is in a better place. It bothers me that out of pure laziness ( and that is a prime explain if ignorant laziness) someone can allow their animal to get to this state. PPL buy these snakes as little guys and thin they are so cute, then as they get older and bigger they either cant care for it anymore or the cuteness factor has worn off. This is one of my worst peeves if you cant tell. I can understand the mistake of one rat bite happening but that is a chewing injury, the rat or rats were left in there with that snake.

ok im off my soap box. I am so glad it is in a place now where it will getthe care it needs and rightly deserves. keep us informed and post lots of pics of this guy. He is a gem of a find.

    Re: Another adoption pending...
I just got another email from Damien... He told me the story of this snake:

    Lynn-

The boa was surrendered by a private owner to a rescue group in northern
Indiana. The rescue group was not equipped to handle a reptile, nor a
specialized medical case, so they transferred to us.

They thought the boa was chewed up by a rat, but don't know for sure. I am
fairly certain the wounds down the snake's back are not bites, but burns.
They are, for the most part, well into healing and are not much more than
scarring at this point. The snake will always be horribly scarred.

The tail does appear to have been chewed on by rats, or put through a meat
grinder... one or the other. It was pulverized pretty good in any case and
at this point is doing OK but if it were to harbor an infection and flare up
in the near future the tail could be a candidate for amputation. It would
not affect the snake's quality of life if that were to happen. So far the
tail has not been bad enough to warrant that and we are hopeful that it will
continue to heal and not be an issue.

I do not have any details from the previous owner, but I can tell you this
is most likely a sub-adult and measures around 6 feet. I have not sexed the
    snake.
So yeah, that's the info. he's got on this guy (or girl, I guess). Who knows what really happened to him before he was turned in.

Also, anyone in Ohio interested in adopting... I would recommend this place big time! www.arrowheadreptilerescue.org

Damien's the director and he seems like a great guy. Thanks all!

That just makes me sick to my stomach! How a human being could let something like this happen to an animal is just beyond my comprehension at times. You are doing a wonderful thing for this animal and I hope that he/she does good by you!

Ohhh! How terrible :( But at least NOW he has a MUCH better life with you Lynne.

Best of luck, and pretty soon he'll be squiggly and in the best of health again for you.

Freaking people... I tell you what. Maybe not. I'm glad to hear that he is now in good hands. Best of luck with him and I'm sure a progress report from time to time would be appreciated by the group here. Bless your heart.

Ya know....Lynn is "people" too. GOOD people. True, the world does not lack for idiots, jerks, losers, and even some downright evil souls. But it is also filled with compassionate, beautiful, selfless, loving souls like Lynn and everyone else here who has ever taken in an abused/neglected/abandoned creature and given it a happy home.

Don't forget to see that side of things, when faced with human downfalls.

EDIT: This comment isn't directed at Tony specifically...just that it was his words that brought it to mind, so I quoted them. It is directed at all the people I see who rant about how evil humans are whenever they see these kinds of threads. (Fortunately, we do see so very little of that here...but I'm afraid some of you are thinking it sometimes! ;) )

Very good point Judy. I agree. Most of the times animals find themselves in this situation due to lack of research / education over some cumpulsive purchase. As discussed previously here. I don't take it personal, no worries here, I'm just glad there are folks out there who can rescue.

Damn, I am really, really getting sick of people neglecting and abusing their animals like this. On an opposite and equally emotional note, I seriously admire and completely support their rescuers. I am so glad you got to him Lynn :)
