    Very nice Adam!
I think someone has posted about this before, but where do you get your hides from?

The plastic ones are easier to drill and clean.

I use the clay ones for now (gonna get a plastic hide soon) and it works but like Adam said it's a pain. :P They're hard to crack right and sand down, holds moisture nice though.

I use the same plastic flower pot hides as Adam for my BP's and baby boas, I buy them at Wal-Mart for $.66ea. Since my BP's just started outgrowing the 12qt tubs and those hides, I moved them up to 27qt tubs and use the same style hide, but 2 sizes larger.

Adam, do you give everyone a hide or do you have some snakes who don't need/use them? =)

Oh, we currently use the ESU Reptile Medium Rock Dens for both girls, but Cleo is bursting at the seams in hers (butt hanging out the back - it's so cute!), so her ESU Reptile Large Rock Dens should be arriving today, so yay!

I offer every single snake a hide ... I can't think of a single one (except maybe for some of the babies) that I haven't caught in his/her hide at some point. I think that hides are a critical aspect of ball python husbandry.

I know that some breeders using rack systems have luck without hides, and that's cool too, but for me, it's hides all the way. ;)

at first I thought using a half log would be great, since its good to rub against during a shed and it looks all nautral
    http://www.reptiledepot.com/pics/zmHabba_Hut_sm.jpg

but our male only used it a few weeks, and our female has never used hers.
Instead our male uses the inside of a fake tree branch that he has to crawl in through the top and our female uses the top of a shoe box cut to sit againt the side of her cage.

You can look at my avatar to see the hides I use for Kisasa...its the same plastic flower-pot bottoms that Adam pictured, but I cut the holes in the side instead of the top. BP's really prefer a hide they have to cram themselves into...something that "hugs" them all the way around.

As evidence of them preferring to cram themselves into unimaginably tight spaces:

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...water-bowl.jpg

That is her the day she arrived here to her new home...trying to get into the tiny bit of hollow space beneath her waterbowl. I knew she wouldn't fit under there...I'd bought that bowl when I thought she'd be smaller than she turned out to be.

To make a long story short...she's much bigger now than the day she arrived...and she LOVES that water-bowl hide and can force her entire body beneath it without even tipping it....although there are days that she tips it quite comically as well. :giggle:

And here's another example, although not of a ball python:

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...aesar-home.jpg

Caesar, the cape gopher, is nearly 5' long now, and still smoooshes his entire body into that little 4" diameter half-coconut shell. He LOVES that thing.

We use kitty litter pans from Wal-mart, and cut a hole in the side. If I remember right, they are about $1.88 apiece. Here is a pic of one of our hides in use. We used to put the opening toward the cage, but I have found that the snakes seem to like the opening facing the back wall of the tub alot better. As far as all of our snakes having hides, they all get a hide once they are moved into CB-70's. However, once they start cramming theirselves between the top of the hide and the screen top of the tub, they loose their hide. Most of my adult snakes no longer have hides, and they seem to not mind. I find that I end up taking their hide out of their tub at around the 700-900 gram range. Judy, I use the same hides for my corn snakes, the coconut hides that is. They love them. Here is a pic.

    Hope this helped some,

That is what I'd like to do. How do you have your humid one set up? What do you use?

I have one large? hide from reptiletubs (which I should replace acutally...it's being outgrown)

Hides from NERD that look very similiar to freedom breeder hides (picked up as a humid hide combo...and acutally, my IJCP's and my gophersnake love those hides).

A couple Medium ESU rock dens, which I should replace as well.

Large exoterra caves. I really like using these in the racks as they hold heat well enough to provide an extra warm place to bask on.

And the only other hides in use are either ziplock containers (leo humid hides), yogurt/cottage cheese containers (baby ball python and leo hides), or one fairly large buckle box (Black blood humid hide).
