Question about white snakes
I'm just wondering what have been the purest white snakes produced today? The snow has an obvious pattern, and I've heard that that black eyed lucys also have some yellow patterning. The super mojaves are also not pure white, at least not the ones I've seen.
So what makes the best white snake? Lesser x Lesser? Het Russo x het russo? Platy x lesser? Are any of these whitesnakes PURE white?
Just curious...

Re: Question about white snakes
Most super lessers are 100% pure white, but I've heard there have been a couple produced that had a very faint back stripe.
The platty x lesser lucys are amazing!

Re: Question about white snakes
Do you mean "platty" as in the so called "platty daddy" meaning only ralph is making those lucy's?

Re: Question about white snakes
By platty I assume he means Platinum not Lesser Platinum. I'm pretty sure there are much more than one platinum

Re: Question about white snakes
*The* Platty Daddy is Ralph's but he has been able to make platties from breeding a normal to a lesser platty (I think that's the combo, but I may have read his genetics info incorrectly), so people who have platties from RDR can make their own white guys.
Ralph actually just wrote a long journal entry on platties recently; it's a good read. =)

Platty=Platinium, Lessers, russo?
I find this trait(s) very confusing and I dont really understand it the genetics behind it......
I think I remember reading somewhere you can produce some type of leucistic BP somehow from this.....

Not a "normal"...but a normal-looking sib from a lesser clutch. I believe the current theory is that there is a hidden recessive gene that combines with the co-dom "lesser" gene to make the Platty (or Platty Daddy, if you prefer).
And I may be wrong, but I don't think there are very many Platty Daddies slithering around out there that don't still belong to RDR. I couldn't say for sure that he's never sold one, but I'd be willing to bet real money he's never sold more than one or two at the very most.

Right...I knew it was something like that. Ralph's got all he knows about it on his website, but I get so easily confused by that stuff, hehe!

Adam's got one/some, doesn't he?

I believe (And I'm sure Adam will correct me if I'm wrong) Adam has a "Lesser"...which is an offspring of Platty Daddy, but not a Platty itself. There are a few more of those to be had in the trade, but the "Daddies" are still super-rare.

To my knowledge, no one has a platty other than RDR. (Could be wrong... ) And as far as MY OPINION, there's only ONE Daddy.... I think he's still calling offspring that LOOK like the orriginal "Platty Daddies"... but I think Platty Daddy is the founding snake... the offspring that look like him should just be "Platinum Balls" as there can only be one daddy! :)

Re: Question about white snakes
so you cant produce a platty dady by breeding to lesser's?

Right...I'm pretty sure he hasn't sold any "Daddies" but can't be 100% sure, which is why I waffled a bit on that one. LOL And yeah...I'm not real sure the newer "Platty Daddies" are exactly like their founder. Kind of like NERD's caramels don't look like the founder of that line either.

I don't think there have been enough generations hatched and bred to know for sure what you may or may not get with all the possible pairing potentials.
Of course, I'm hardly one to be acting like an expert...I'm going on faulty memory from nothing more than reading RDR's site, which anyone else can do as well. I guess I'm just feeling chatty..... :P

Re: Question about white snakes
Last year’s RDR results where apparent platy versions of butter and phantom where produced from the first generation cross of Platy descendents to both of those lines has really got me agreeing with an earlier theory that only a single copy of the extra something (I call it dilute) is needed to combine with lesser/butter/phantom to make the Platy/dilute versions.
However, this theory also requires that the “dilute” mutation be linked to the lesser mutation to prevent Daddy Platy from passing both onto the same offspring and creating ¼ platy when bred to normal. For this to work the dilute gene would have to be on the same chromosome as lesser and possibly be an allele of lesser.

Re: Question about white snakes
I never really worry about all that platty lesser leucy stuff....because unless I win the lottery, it's an snake Ill never be able to afford....so I'm just gonna stick to pastels and 'binos for now thanks..;)

Let me know when you produce 1.2 albinos, and 1.2 pastels, and we'll talk about a lesser :)
You've got trading power! :)

Re: Question about white snakes
well, I won't have those for awhile either.......just gonna be getting a het albino pair from Adam in Oct.....been breeding normals and now ready to "explore" the more affordable morphs.....sorry to let ya down.....

The Black eyed Leucie does not have any yellow 'patterning'. All but one of the five that we have hatched - and the one hatched by Mike Wilbanks, have the odd blotch of light yellow scales, about four or five scales clumped together, but no patterning what-so-ever. A male bred by us in '05, has a number of black scales mixed with the yellow blotches, but again - no patterning.
