Saoirse Broke A Thousand!

For those of you that have been cheering on our rescued WC adult female Saoirse I thought you'd all like to know that as of tonight's weigh in Saoirse is 1,030 grams! Finally she's broken that 1,000 barrier!!!!

She came off her 5.5 month winter fast and ate once, then stopped eating again for a few more weeks than started up a few weeks back and has been eating very aggressively each Thursday. She's still pretty triangular in shape and can stand to gain quite a bit more before she's in fighting form again but we've been waiting and praying for this milestone every since the day we got her last fall (at a meagre 620 grams - very underweight for an adult female).

She's continuing to accept handling beautifully and has lost her inital shyness completely. She still thinks Mike is the best thing around and is most relaxed when she's climbing around him or lazing on his lap. We're so glad we gave this special snake a home!

What is it with girl bp's and their daddies?! Sheesh...=D

Glad to hear she's getting up to her "fighting" weight! Go Saoirse, go! Eat them ratties!

Thanks everyone! Really it's totally to Mike's credit that he got this girl to eat. From what we could get of her life in captivity it seems that she never ate or immediately regurged (she was treated for internal parasites by her first owner). Mike just seems to have a real connection with this snake and for some reason she'll take food from him. Perhaps his scent somehow translates into safety in her wee snakey brain...we'll never know of course.

I being the total worrywort I am will still count the days till she hits 1,500 or better and we can finally see the maturing female she is come into full bloom....then I'll know we did good by her.

Oh I did forget to brag on her though. The last three weeks feedings she's been the first snake to hit her rat....even beat Malachi to the punch and that takes some doing LOL.

thats awsome, my WC hit 1000 grams a couple years ago after a nine month fast, It was awsome to put him on the scale and for it to say 1000 grams.
