    No not the stupid movie....

I was just wondering if you go to one of big reptiles shows like Daytona and buy a snake, is there anyway to take it back on the airplane with you?

You probably cant carry it on? Can you have it as part of your checked bags? Or do people ship it back to themselves somehow?

You know..I have taken rodents on a plane as carry on in critter keepers, and those were put into a small camera bag...and kept safely under my seat... so I dont know why you could not put a snake in a snake bag and then put into one of those canvas camera type bags like I did. But do be aware, anything you take on as carry on, will be put through the x-ray machine. They saw my rats on the screen, and I did too as they went through, but they never said one word to me about it.

No, you can't take snakes in the passenger compartment of an airplane anymore.

Back in the day, I had heard that people would put snakes in a tube sock, tie it in knot and carry it on the plane back in their pocket ... those days are long gone. ;)

Can you check it as luggage?

Of course Adam still does that when he goes to a bar, he doesn't stuff it in his back pocket though, all the girls want to hang out with him when he is "stuffed"...;)

I would guess you need to ship it...but Adam and such people should have the real answer since they go to those shows often...what do out-of-town attendees who've flown in get their new snakies home?

I think your best bet if you are flying to and from the Expo, is to make a deal with the person you're buying from to have them ship it to your home.

If I was flying to Daytona and bought a snake there, I'd either ask the breeder if he/she could ship it back for me, or if I was Delta/FedEx certified, ship it back myself.

Some airlines might have provisions for transporting "pet" reptiles on commercial tickets, but I have never had to use that as an option so I cannot speak intelligently about it.

Now, more importantly ... Sam ... if it wasn't for the tube sock, I'd be a lonely boy. ;) :tongue2:

My question is how do far-out-of-town vendors get all their "products" (animals) to the show safely and keep them at proper temps/humidity for the duration of the trip and expo? I would imagine the insurance as well is staggering...

I just have this vision of Adam driving an SUV or something, chock full of 1000's and 1000's of dollars worth of snakes from Maryland to Florida...:O

If I remember correctly, Adam doesn't show at Daytona - just attends - am I remembering correctly?

I believe Ralph drives with a convoy of friends.

Edit: I was posting the same time he did! Score!!! LOL

Thats what Ralph Davis does, he even had a cool trailer made that matches his truck. I think NERD drives down from New England as well, Most of the vendors drive to the shows. Heck John and I drove down from Jersey for the show last year, it wasn't too bad of a drive. Except that I did most of the driving as Jas drives like an old woman. He will try and tell you it was because we were driving my car, and he wasn't used to it, but in reality he drives like Miss Daisy. :P

    Adam,

The next time I'm in Maryland for some crazy idea, I'll drop by with at least a six-pack of Corona just for you. ^_^

Wow....Delta can accept reptiles and amphibians as air cargo (so bring a box to ship the snake home in) and you might be able to call it a gecko or something, I doubt they'd open the box.

Funny how you can ship live caiman, but not non-venomous snakes. Thats really not cool.

Unless you're a verified shipper, FAA requires that all cargo is visually inspected before being loaded on the plane.

Hey Adam - does "back in the day" count if it was 2005?

In my infinte wisdom I bought an African House snake at FIRE in florida and had the breeder tell me to do the tube sock trick. So I did.

The morning before I left to fly home I checked the airline website for the rules on pets, my particular airline has a NO ANIMALS EVER policy. So unless I could convince them it was a seeing-eye-snake I was taking a risk.

Needless to say I was a very NERVOUS boy. A little research after the fact reveals that breaking an airline's rules like that can turn into a felony if you're not lucky.

I was a dumb, dumb, stooooopid boy that day.

But the little house snake rocks!

Ya got bigger stones than I! .... These days if you get busted, it would probably be considered a terrorist act and you're be screwed. I'd much rather pay the $35 to FedEx than get a one way ticket to a kufee and a rubber hose in a cell in Cuba. :D :carrot:
