    Happened So Fast!
Well. About 2 weeks ago I was a herp lover, mostly in the chelonian part with a couple of lizards here and there. Then I got curious, I went to my local breeder shop and asked to see a BP. I held the nsake (for the first time in my life) and immediately fell in love with Stewie. I brought him home and after 1 week I can safely say this is my new obsession.

It happened so fast, I turned into a snake junkie in one week. now im looking at boas and morphs. Its just alarming, but im very happy/excited abotu it :D

    Just wanted to share.....

Well, I can say that there isn't a definitive connection between loving snakes and loving adult cartoons. I haven't watched the Simpsons in years...and while I found it humorous, I don't particularly miss watching it. And I've never even seen 30 seconds of a Family Guy episode! But I LOVE my snakes!!! LOL

The family guy snake connection might have more to do with an age group than with an actual connection :) but what do i know :(

Welcome to our world LOL. You will now enjoy some of the side benefits of owning a Ball Python...things like obsessing over your temps and humidity, pacing off the time of that first shed, stressing over when your snake poops (or worse yet doesn't poop).....free case of OCD with every purchase basically. LOL Oh and you get a further addiction.....you begin to check BP breeder sites on a daily basis to see what they have available or are hatching this year (sorry we do not provide a free drool bib, you'll have to bring your own). Eventually you will start to remember BPNet members not by their own names but by the name of some BP they own that caught your eye....

You will soon have more pics of your snakes than your kids. If you decide to breed BP's you will worry about their "love life" more than your own. Friends will start to refer to you as "that crazy snake guy/girl" (you won't care and will in fact think of this as a good thing!) You will buy a snake instead of that new couch you had your eye on. Any future housing decisions will include..."hey my snakes could go there!" more than if there's an extra bathroom. Resistance is futile....

    you have entered...

The BP Zone (pls insert eerie music here....) :P

    Welcome to the addiction.

My wife has started calling me and my daughter "psychos", and neither of us think that is a bad thing!!!

My family doesn't understand it. But, it's always nice to take a snake outside and neighbors freak out over it. :)

I wanted a snake for over 10 years but just did not do the research and was afraid to get a breed that might grow to big for me to handle. For a while - traveling a lot and various things kept me from being able to really think about it. About a year ago -- I got the bug BAD -- to get one so kept my buddies for her (16 year old BP) and also talked with two very knowledgable friends. Got my girl just before Thanksgiving and am soooooo happy with her. My husband raised various breeds when he was in his teens and loves them too -- but he laughs because I take her out every night for 30 mins, talk to her, and let her just move around the couch (supervised of course) -- exceptions to that are 48 hours after feeding and shed time. So COMPLETELY understand the bug....

Oh a 16 year old BP! How cool is that! I know of course that they easily live that long and far past that but you so rarely hear of one being kept as a pet that long. Any chance of pics of the grand old lady (well middle aged lady...even a female snake has her ego! LOL)

My boyfriend thinks I'm obsessed and my parents loook at me strangely. When I talk about my "kids," people ask how old they are and who's babsitting.

Trust me...the addiction only keeps getting worse.

I do not have any on my computer -- the 16 year is actually a male named Sultan. My friend has had him since he was very young - not a baby but she has had him since mid '90s. She is a snake lover -- she has had many and bred them. Great teacher too for someone like me wanting to learn. She was out of town for 2 months so asked me if I wanted to try out having a snake by keeping hers....he had no rest either - had him out every night. She laughed and said I spoiled him. He is a beauty -- right at 4 feet and just still a calm guy. I will be keeping him again in July -- she is leaving again and I offered! haha so if I remember I will take a photo.

You know she has kept a journal of his growth and feedings and such for years -- it is amazing to read. I am trying to do the same with my girl.
