Ophelia's First Rat
I figured I'd let everyone know that after two years of eating three mice a week, I finally decided that she'd get more out of eating a rat.
I went to Noah's Pets and Brad picked me out something perfect. I'll be posting pictures in a few. I believe she's enjoying getting fed. I would. (Man...I'm hungry. TACOS!)
Anyhoo. I just had to publicly celebrate.

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
I actually filled out an application there. O_o I'm hoping that if I get hired by the end of Powhatan's semester, it'll work out. I hate living on the "West End."
SUSHI, VAUGHN! SUSHI! We need to go sometime. Your wife, Justin, you and I. Hell...do the kids like sushi? (Not the scalekids...not the scalekids!)

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
we're in the west end, near gaskins&broad. there's a decent buffet bar called "super king" near broad&parham. excellent sushi, habachi bar and reg. asian buffet items around 20 bucks a person. i know i can eat 20 bucks worth of sushi, crabs, stir fry! :hungry:
i think you have a good chance of getting a job at noah's. they had a help wanted sign on the door today.

Glad she took the rat. The mouse bedding trick works every time.
for sushi- we do sticky rice down in the fan. thats where the vcu kids do it.
richmond, va will eventually become the ball python capital of the world. you just wait!

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
It was a great idea, but she didn't need it. Within a minute she slammed him.
Never been to Sticky Rice. I'm a Kabutos/Sumo Sans/Osakas kinda girl. O_O
Hey...first time for everything!

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
Pre-law = shelling out lots of cash for LSAT tests and expensive kaplan prep courses. But its something I've wanted to do since high school when I worked for a guy who practiced environmental law. Its good stuff.
Thread hijacked. CongRATS! (that'll never get old)

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
And oh yeah....tomorrow is my last day at the pet shop...kinda bittersweet. Its a fun job but doesn't exactly pay well. I'm pretty sure you can get a better starting salary at McDonalds. With a SUV payment, students loans, and law school on the horizon (and something special cooking in the incubator somewhere up in MD ;) )...I needed to find a job that paid me fairly. Luckily my dad's firm needed someone to do some data entry, so that works out well.

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
Hey not to get too on-topic here but was that a live or F/T rat. Also how old is your female. My male is taking 2 mice a week no problem and I'm wondering how he'd fair taking live rats. I've tried F/T juvy before with no luck but I believe he is big enough now to take a small adult.

Re: Ophelia's First Rat
Both of my kids eat live. Odysseus eats an adult mouse every 4-5 days and Ophelia is not eating a live, mid-sized rat each Friday. Ophelia is two-years-old and approximately 45' and 1100+ grams. (I haven't weighed her in a while).
The rule of thumb is simply this: Feed your snakes a properly sized prey item that is equal to or slightly less than the thickest part of their girth. That's what you should use to gage what size your prey items need to be.
