Ma-tsu pics :)

Between needing images for Blue Gorgon and them being such posers all day, I keep getting tons of VBB pics. It'll be nice when I have a better camera tho! I took a bunch more pictures than this, but most of them have awful glare or didn't come out at all.

I took this pic upside down with my left hand because my right hand was a bit full. This is Ma-tsu's security tail. She usually gets a real good grip on me there or at my bicep when I'm handling her. The rest of her is pretty much everywhere else, lol, and I couldn't get any other pics that came out from my POV like this one.

This one's a bad pic, but a favorite sight of mine. Ma-tsu's "Pick me up, I want loves!" face. When I lean over the tank she comes right to me flicking her tongue at the screen. Too sweet.

Thanks guys! I'm hoping to breed them next year, I just want to be sure and have the hatchling/juvinile rack, the incubator, and shipping stuff all together first. Plus a vet visit for these two just to be on the safe side. I just need to figure out how to get up there with two VBBs and no car :rolleyes: I'm all nervous and excited already!

And thanks, Shelby, I've been trimming my "talons" like that since I was like... 8 years old or so. Now any other shape just feels weird, lol! :alien:

And Tigerlily... that's exactly how I got hooked. Pics of beauties online. But let me assure you it's much harder to resist in person. Ma-tsu slayed me when I met her. It was all downhill from there! :halohorn:

How many babies do they have? I assume they are egg layers?

Yup, they lay eggs usually in the teens, from 10 to maybe 18 eggs in a clutch. They're also the only colubrid to have been observed displaying maternal incubation like pythons do, which I thought was rather cool. :)

Lord but she's a gorgeous snake Sheree! I also love the pics you post of any of your pets but she's hands down the most lovely (but I love me some Gomez pics anytime you post them lol).

If you guys are still in Arizona when you have VBB babies, I'll drive over and pick mine up! No need to ship! Yis yis! =D

Ma-tsu is gorgeous and sweet all wrapped up in one cuddly package. :) I'm still amused that she dives into her food while still wrapped around my arm, lol. She's also putting a bit of meat on her, which is awesome! 2 food items a week is much better than 1 food item every other week like she had before, I still can't believe that guy was breeding her on so little food. Her sides are ever so slightly soft now instead of just uber hard and firm. She's a spoiled happy girl. :love:

And that rules, Cassandra! I'd love to meet you and you'd get to meet your hatchling's momma and poppa too! :D Well... meet your hatchling's momma and look at their poppa, lol.

Are you planning on breeding them this year? Do they get brumated like other Colubrids?

We're gonna try putting them back together next late Feb to early April as per the only article I've ever found on breeding these snakes, Jamie, and they don't appear to need being brumated by what I've read and been told by their previous owner. Which is awesome, because I'd miss them! However, it does say to just let them cool off a bit, upper 60s to low 70s for a while before putting them together. It sounds like clutches tend to hatch around June or July.

The guy who was breeding this pair before I wisked them away just left them in the same tank year round with no additional heat, and even as stressed and cranky as Neptune was he still did his duty and they produced lots of babies together. He just let them do their thing. I wouldn't be surprised to find them copulating *now* if I had them in the same enclosure, but I'm not ready for it so they gotta hang in there!

That is some exciting stuff! Can't wait to see what the babies look like!
