Someone in Turkey, it would appear. Anyhow,....personally, I think the less attention we devote to it in public and the less drama we allow to be cause by it...the better chance idiots like that will try and get their jollies elsewhere. Let's not give them the satisfaction of seeing us fuss over their actions.

I wouldn't call replacing a couple PHP files hacking...more likely some jerk playing with a script and finding sites or servers that are not completely secure. Nice job on the turn around time though.

    Script kiddies all the way.

With really poor font/color tastes to boot ;)

There will be some site downtime at some point while i do the postmortem happy-happy-joy-joy. I have a fair idea where it happened. Pitchers of 'ritas will be happily accepted contributions during this time and I will of course give yawll as much advanced notice as possible.

in my school we (actually mostly some of my nerd buddies) helped the comupter teacher set up the security last year so we could do whatever we wanted but then this year they got a pro to do it.

The version of vbulletin this site is using is vulnerable to multiple attacks including script insertion and cross scripting.

Some of the holes appear to be patchable only through version upgrades.

The head in the sand approach rarely works.

Determining how the attack occurred and mitigating would be the proper approach.

Attacks can easily be automated without regard to what site is being targeted.

It likely wasn't someone with an axe to grind with BP.net, but rather someone who found a hole and exploited it.

3.0.13 and 3.0.14 patches are in though the displayed version number will only reflect the last full upgrade.

    The hack was unrelated.

Suggesting that we don't turn this event into some public drama about how upset or angry everyone may have been is hardly "head in the sand." What I said has nothing to do with what is going on behind the scenes...and "behind the scenes" is where it belongs, in my opinion.

This implied head in the sand to me.

I don't think we are giving them satisfaction by talking about it....personally I would consider this thread more a "laughing in their face" conversation. Like smulkin said we didn't lose anything but time and even that wasn't enough to fuss about (well maybe for some of us). Our AT will take the steps needed to prevent such childish vandalizm again...have no ph33R!

    Hehe.

No worries - but I am obviously not going to lay the blueprints out or anything ;) I know we all had a moment of BP jonesin' while I drove home and yes i defintely had a pucker moment lol.

And yes the vector hath been verily excised and sealed.

Now back to our regularly scheduled and much beloved herpchilluns.
