Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
I have a few racks and the tub feet slide 1.5 inches from the side of the rack, so im trying to wire this as close to the edge as possible. However the element is diagonal so one side is half an inch further than the other if you cut with the element. Is it ok to cut straight across to make it even as long as you tape the exposed edge?
I think it should be fine with electrical tape, but just double checking since in the past Ive always cut with it , not across.
Re: Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
No. Don't cut the heat strips. Bad news.
Re: Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
Why are they diagonal then? it makes it a PITA to wire close to the edge of a rack
Re: Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
I know. Tell me about it! It doesn't make any sense to me either, but trust me...You don't want to cut through it. That's where the heat comes from, if you cut it and black tape it, it will melt the tape QUICKLY. Smells really bad too.

it worries me what will happen next...

What width are you using? I buy my 4" from The Bean Farm and the element is straight and not diag. Makes for a clean cut.
Re: Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
I think 11" is zig zagged...I cant be sure because I have no Flexwatt here at work... :)

Thats why I always cut on the dotted line like a good boy should :)
Re: Flexwatt: Ok to cut ACROSS the heating element instead of diagonally with it?
If it is the 11", you have to cut it on the dotted lines. The 3" and 4" inch tape you can cut straight across anywhere. What width of tape are you using?

Any size flex can be cut to any length, you just have to not cut through the carbon(black part) if you do cut through the black just insulate is with some eletrical tape and you are good to go:)
