I'll get some better pics in a few days when hes digested them a bit lol.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Do you offer him hides at all? I also don't see any thermometers for measuring his temps.
Not good to have the cat on top - they could fall through that screen.
Other than that - he's a nice looking snake.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
PLEASE read this and try to provide the proper environment for your ball python:
http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=52
I would hate for anything bad to happen to such a great looking snake.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Ok there is no hiding spot in there because when we have mice in there and a hiding spot he just hides and doesn't eat the mice. Our cat isn't allowed on top of the cage except for when we are around and he knows it lol. And besides, that wire is very strong. xP I could sit on it and it would barely bend. And about the size of the cage, we had a bigger cage but the glass got broken so we can't use that one anymore. =/ And we do have a thermomiter. Its in the corner hidden by the wood top. Its fairly little.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Looks healthy enough. I also take out all hides when feeding my snakes. The whole top on that cage isn't screened, right? It's wood, right?
-
Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Yeah your BP needs at least 2 hiding spots, digital themometer and a humidity meter. Also, you need to make sure you clean up after any BM's they make. To keep their enviorment as clean as possible.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
About that mess.. xP I checked with my sister and that wasn't today? I dont know. Its not in there now and I didn't clean it up lol

Its wood with a bit of screen in the middle. Not a lot. There is enough wood that it is very sturdy and the top is 'pinned' down. Not exactly pinned.. There is a hole in the cage and in the wood that we put a pin through and it holds very well.

With ball pythons, it is best not to disturb their enclosure environment before feeding. That will create unneeded stress on the animal and can result in the ball python not eating. They are ambush preditors.....that means they need a place to ambush from.

Oh. I didn't know that lol. Our snake just waits for a mouse to come a little bit closer and then it attacks. It never seemed that he got stressed when we take out his hidey and climbing branch thingy majiger.
-
Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
It is perfectly fine if you leave in the hide and branch. What are you using for substrate? I really cant make out what it is from the picture.

Looked to be eating just fine to me.

Now that is a good question. It looks like little rocks to me. I'm not sure I agree with that one. I'm a newspaper guy though, everything else is too much of PITA for me LOL.
-
Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
They arn't little rocks its either corn husks or corn hulk I don't remember what its called. Please don't get mad if I'm not suppost to be using that I'm still learning here.

I think it's a bad idea to remove everything from the enclosure as well. I've only had to feed live a couple times, but I never disturbed their tubs when I did.

And leaving a mouse in the enclosure all day, with no hiding place for the bp is going to end with a chewed up snake. :( Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It's just seems the wiser course to be as safe as possible when feeding live. :D
As for the corn husk, I've not heard anyone using that. I'm unsure of the appropriateness of such a substrate. :confuzd:

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Well my sister heard somewhere it was a good bedding to use but I'm not sure if they were a good source or not but my sister seems to trust them. I don't know who it was lol.

What about feeding in a different tub?

Not necessary.. and can cause multiple problems... stress on the snake, regurge due to handling so quickly after a meal...etc..

That may be the case this time, but it will not be forever. Ball pythons feed better when their environment is not disturbed. I know this because I have experienced with the ball pythons that I keep and from information provided by others.
Jim, how many ball pythons do you keep? I would just like to know since you seem to disagree with the advice that I give concerning them.
-
Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
I think I recognize the substrate as corncob .....it's most frequently sold as bird litter, but i have seen some companies repackage the stuff and sell it as reptile litter.....I even think it had pics of snakes on it! it's easy for a newbie to become confused when shopping for supplies for their new snake. I saw it happen many times at the petstore i worked at. It is easy to see how he might have been led in the wrong direction, with all those -speaks sarcastically- "experts" out there at the pet stores lol!!! Any way, catzeye, you made the right move by joining this forum!!! When it comes to help and assistance with BP's, this forum is the best...you won't be dissappointed!

Just because I don't own one now doesn't mean I have never owned a few. Plus, I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just stating that it WAS eating fine at that moment. I just don't like seeing someone getting torn apart for just sharing a few pics with us. If he/she wanted help they would ask.
Sorry I upset you buddy.

Jimi, no one was tearing anyone apart so let's take that down a notch and pick less inflamatory words. When someone posts a pic or a post of course others will comment, that's just the way of the things and especially if they see anything of concern. That can be a touchy thing occasionally but it also is part of what makes us a very caring, concerned community.

So corncob isn't an ok litter for snakes? Thanks lol. I own a few guinea pigs (as pets not food! lol) and I am apart of a few guinea pig forums and I know a lot about them so I figured, why not join a cat forum, a snake forum, and a budgie forum. ^_^ I want to learn all about my pets.

Re: Pics of Mr. Sister eating. ^_^
Nah, If you want my honest opion, it pretty much sucks for snakes. Holds no humidity, and if it gets wet, it gets moldy super fast. If you shop at a petstore, and want to get somthin' much better for your guy, forest bed, that mulchy stuff(forget what its called), or aspen all work great. the latter is also more cost effective. If you've got the money to spend, I'd say go for the mulchy stuff:gj: ...oh and you should definately put an acu-rite thermometer/humidity gage on your shopping list too(you can get tis at WalMart for $12)....you can't go wrong with one of those! good luck with da li'l feller.

Hehe...which stuff? Bed-a-beast and Eco-earth are both compressed coconut husks. Cypress mulch is something else entirely. But it's all good for snakes!
