    ball python room
When I lost what little mind I had and decided to keep some ball pythons I made plans to create a proper environment for them. I studied what you guys where doing, pals in the biz and local herpers and I came up with the following. It's a separate room from the main living space of the house that I built. The room features central air/heat, automated ventilation and central vacuum. The rack features flexwatt controlled by Helix. The setup is low maintenance and leaves me plenty of time to just enjoy the ball pythons. Enough babble, here are some pics! Chris

I think the thing I love the most about that entire room, aside from the fact that you went through all the trouble, is the pictures on the top of the rack. Shows how much you love them. ^_^

mel. Thanks! I want to cover the empty walls with pics, they are just all so neat to look at! I love them long time :D

Smulkin. Thanks! It took me four weekends of screwing around to get it all finished out, with a few late nights peppered in between curing stages.

jake. Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

muddoc. Thanks! lol about clean. I may be a little obsessive about that. The water dishes have velcro on the bottoms to keep them in their proper place but the snakes INSIST on moving them anyways to drive me nuts. I am almost to the point of being ok with that :P

JLC. Thanks. You should see the rest of the house. There might be a national back order on crown molding :O I have very little growing room, this is in hopes of not having too many ball pythons. I have space for 8 more adults and when the time comes I have space for 60 babies. I want to keep things small and simple. We shall see how well that works out for me!

Thanks for the kind words. I enjoy making stuff. I built the rack out of 3/4 MDF and it features heavy duty caster wheels. That thing weights a bazzilion lbs but can be rolled around by my pinky :D

Seriously though - if I counted right - does your rack hold 21 snakes? Very nicely done - I love everything about it!

LOL...good luck with that! I actually drew up plans for a 2500sf snake house! :O I don't think I'll ever have enough room. The only thing holding me back right now is a husband who really doesn't want to live with snakes in his home. (Which is why I have to have a separate house...LOL) Someday...someday....someday...

cass. You would be selling yourself short! Besides there are only two snakes on that row, the left is the "environment box" to measure temps and humidity and has no snake in it. Sweet poster!!!

    Re: ball python room
Rusty. Thanks man! I used 3/4 MDF for the rack. The MDF comes in slightly larger than 4x8 sheets to give you some room for cuts. This works out great since I use a slim blade and gain a bit of material. The rack is 49" wide and 25" deep with a height of 60". I cut the pieces to size and then assembled the rack upside down. I placed the tubs in place with the lids on and placed on the first(when right side up it would be the top shelf) shelf on and attached with screws. It's important to drill pilot holes with MDF as it's susceptible to separation. I just repeated the shelving levels in this fashion. This method works better than measuring exact distances because I know for sure that each level will accept the tubs properly. Once finished the tubs do not use the lids and this provides perfect clearance to smoothly slide in and out with a little resistance once painted. This way no tricky snakes can move the tubs from the inside by wedging themselves on the hide box. I have watched this trick once and make it a point to add some resistance. The tubs are 32gt Sterilite and work perfectly for the 49" width. Any specific questions, just let me know! I am not expert but I do enjoy screwing around :D

ARamos8. Thanks! Are you coming to the Dallas meeting next month? It's going to be HUGE!

SnakeySnakeSnake. Thanks B! I am just a kid screwing around. I figure I should take advantage of the energy while I still have it..lol! The tubs contain the making for white snakes mostly, albinos, ivories and black eyed lucys. With some random dinkers tossed in for fun.

sweety314. Thanks! Sure, just convince my bosses they don't want me around ;)

frankykeno. Good to hear from you!!! How's the big city treating you?? Lol..the color is BEHR Sagey. It's close to a native Texas Sage that I like. This color is featured in a few places in the house.

I was curious because I want to include more info as my breeding projects get into high gear. Right now I'm just using little colored circular labels to indicate name and sex.
