Adopting!
I found an ad online while searching initially for puppies, a female ball python at a Reptile rescue in Wisconsin called Serpents Circle Reptile Rescue.
Her name is Phara, and she's an adult female that came to the rescue from another center that found her in a cage in abandoned house with some dogs that they were going to rescue. She is eating F/T small/medium rats once weekly. As far as they now she is said to be CH or CBB and they didn't have a weight for me...but in her pictures she looks really plump and healthy.
She has a great looking pattern with some real high whites rising from the belly, with some nice blushing. All of that snake for a $45 adoption fee.:D

I filled out the application for her, and was approved. Also, come to find out that the people from the rescue will be attending the show in WI this next weekend, so I'll be finishing my paperwork and bringing her home with me!
I'm glad that I can give her a quality home for the next 10+ years of her life. (No exact age on her) When she gets home I"ll be taking her to see my local exotics vet for a check-up and a proper probing to be certain on her sex.
When she's all settled in I'll take some more pictures of her for you all. And I actually like the name, so I think I'll be keeping it. :)

Re: Adopting!
she is very pretty. is here eye gold or is there glare or something?
-
Re: Adopting!
awesome!! i hope u do well with her
btw i noticed in the shot that the eyes look like there may be a retained eyecap. now it could just be the shot but u should check into that.
good luck!!!!!!!!

Re: Adopting!
I believe its probably a camera flash, could be a retained eye cap. They told me that when they took her pictures she was in a shed, so a retained cap is a good possibility. With some TLC I'll get those right off.

Re: Adopting!
I too saw that adoption add.
I wouldnt mind a big healthy girl like her but I decided against it since we are also going to the reptile show in WI and probably going to buy a juvy female there.
She is a hottty though!
I bet you're going to give her a great home!
Every time I look at Khan I think how great it is giving him one on one and being able to give him the care he needs
Good luck and keep me updated....
Im a fellow WI dweller!

I'll be looking for a few juvenile females as well, or some other snakes to add to the collection.
I've got her home all warmed up for her, and ready to go!
Thanks for the wishes of luck Khan, BTW I'm a MN dweller...close though:P
Gooooo Gophers!
Oh, and I hope to run into a few BP.net'ers at the show. I'll probably be wearing my chicago bears hat, so look for the short guy in the white hat and come say hi.

Re: Adopting!
Thanks everyone!
and Andre they do have a website, http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WI243.html
They're a small rescue, so they only have reptiles from time to time. I know there is another reptile rescue in WI

Re: Adopting!
Here's the WI Herp Society site that lists the reptile rescues in WI. You'll have to email the other two to see what they have available.

There ya go! It's in Monona which is a few minutes from Madison. It'll be a 3 1/2 hour drive for my friends and I, but it'll definitely be worth it.

Re: Adopting!
BTW, have you been to Twin Cities Reptile since you are right up there? Is it worth the visit? How about Leapin' Lizards? I've heard they both have really nice stuff.
Just wondering!

TCR is the place I go for all my BP needs, as a matter of fact. The people who work there are really knowledgeable about the animals they sell. they are a little higher priced than what I would like, but thats where I got everything for Nag.
I havent been to leapin lizards yet.

Re: Adopting!
Yay for adoption!!!
I myslef am waiting to hear from a animal welfare. The owner is still trying to decide which one they want to let go, since they have two. I cant seem to get enough of helping these guys.. they are so cute, and quite forgiving! (except to my pockets... none of them want to eat f/t! lol)
Congrats on your new family member, and kudos for adopting.
Just beautiful :)

I've heard Bruce at TCR is a pretty good guy, I was told that I need to call him sometime and arrange to see some of his personal collection that he doesn't keep at the store. So someday I will make the trip up to see both.

Re: Adopting!
Well, I went to the show today and at about three went outside to meet up with the rescue people...and they never showed up. I figured something must be wrong...so sadly I had to leave without Phara.
I got home, checked my email and sure enough the girl from the rescue had emailed my saying that they had an emergency come up. There isn't any real way that I can drive back 4 hours (750 miles round trip) and go pick up Phara, so unless she gets shipped to me she'll probably be going back up for adoption. :( I really would've liked to take her in...
If she does go back up, I'll let you guys know, so you local WI residents can hit up the great offer and help out a nice animal.

Re: Adopting!
For those who might be interested, there's also Forgotten Friend in PA. I was going to adopt one of their rescues, but the weather got too cold before we could ship her. :(
Sadly, there are too many herps & other reptiles, or just critters in general, that need a good, FOREVER home. I wished we weren't such a "throw away" society/world. :tears:

Re: Adopting!
Oh darn that's too bad Jason. Lesson for all of us to get cell numbers and so forth when meeting up with anyone for a pickup. Actually I was amazed a rescue would adopt her out to anyone for breeding use. The only reptile rescue back in MI is dead strict about not adopting anything out if you will use it for breeding purposes so you lucked out there. Could just be that rescue though, they don't even return emails when you enquire about a specific snake. Well if you can't give her a home I'm sure someone on this forum would be thrilled to make her a valued part of their collection.

She actually asked me if I was planning on buying a male for her at the show. I inquired about the terms of the adoption, just to make sure breeding was okay, and sure enough nothing against breeding. I asked just to make sure and she told me that she thought it was fine because the snake was in great health.
I never thought to get a cell number, which I should have done. I really hope someone else from here takes her so I know she'll be well cared for.
Too bad about your local rescue, not very professional of them to not return emails.

Re: Adopting!
Very good news. I will be adopting her tomorrow most likely. I will give her a good home.

Re: Adopting!
Congrats on getting her...I'm still bummed that I couldn't. Post some pictures when you get her home.
