    Hatchling Rack water bowls?
Any suggestions for hatchling rack water bowls? Ive been considering the pvc + deli cup method, but i was trying to find another option.

I found large ceramic bowls at walmart for $.56 that work great on my other tubs but are a bit large.

I need 300 of these, and ive bought 2 walmarts out for my other tubs so they arent very good options.

Anyone know of any bowls that can be used on a long term basis, for .10-.60 each and that can be found in a larg quantity near 300?

    Thanks

Well you can re-use the deli cups if you wish.. and they cost around .07 each with shipping. With that many snakes, I'm going to bet you'll get REAL sick of scrubbing 300 water dishes every week. I love just being able to toss the dishes and put new ones in every week.

I suppose, and I dont plan on using all 300 every week, just as temp housing for a few months for the most part.

I use 8oz deli cups for hatchlings and just throw them out each week ... washing gets very tedious with several hundred hatchlings ... no bowl, no pvc ... just the cup in the cage ... works well up until they start tipping them at about 350 grams.

Yep.. I have to use the PVC for some of my more rambunctious small snakes (kingsnakes mostly) but the little ones don't need the holder.

oh thats cool, so 8 ounce deli cups stand up pretty well with small snakes? I may have to go this way.

Im going to search online, but does anyone have a good location for bulk delicups?

    thanks,

Mine are tipping them as often as they can! I guess its time to go to the PVC.

    whew! good.

I will be dealing with 50-100 gram balls to start, and it will be a little while before they get tipsy sized..

Then it will be time to get a new blade for my miter saw and a 12 foot piece of pvc and have at it.

    4.6 cents each

I think these will work well, and i can pick them up at Sam's club. They hold about 12-16 ounces of water, and seem pretty stable.

Those edges seem like they would be sharp. Are they? Like it was mentioned, the 8oz deli cups are good up to 300-400 grams. I have used the 4" pvc couplers and love them. I wonder if there is a 2" PVC coupler that would fit the 8oz cups.

A snake's skin is tough, I wouldn't worry about those edges unless there's real sharp corners. The problem is that takes up half the tub.. will you only put water in one of the compartments, or the whole thing? Thermoregulation is kinda tough if half your house is a water bowl. You could try turning it 90 degrees to the side so the snake could still get to the cool side I suppose.

Ya know, after I mentioned 2" couplers, I realized that 4" probably refers to the diameter. Shows you what I know about plumbing supplies. The coupler is probably closer to 6" high. Its late and I hope this makes sense.

4" coupler refers to the diameter, yes. I went to home depot and bought some of the parts labeled '4" coupler' but they were actually a tad big, and the cups fell through. I ended up with the '4" female adapter' and that worked perfectly. I recommend bringing one of the cups with you when you buy couplers to make sure the fit is perfect.

Water holds heat well, it would take time when it was first put in to heat up, but after that I dont see an issue.

It takes up about 1/3 of the space, I just had it pulled out a ways.

I agree that its a bit large, but I figure I can also fill it up less and it will still be stable. There is room if i push it to the middle right, or turn it sideways that the snake has room to be on cool or hot side, and that will just be in the center.

Im still going to order 500 of the 8ouncers as well, just looking for local options.

I didn't mean this.. I just mean the snake needs to be able to get to the cool side. If it can, I don't see a problem.

Oh sorry, yeah, if i turned it sideways and put it in the middle they would have access to 3 heat points, cool, half and half, and warm.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I actually dont have that issue anymore with the 16oz cups. The tubs I got have the built in cup holder and it works perfectly! What he could do is buy a piece of 4" PVC pipe and cut it to size for the 8 oz ones I might do that as well.
