My BP thought my finger was the mouse!
    More funny than anything.....

Stupid me.... REALLY, I was just asking for it. I put the mouse in just-less-than-a-year-old Nala's 50 gallon tank, and since I had the top open and all, I figured I'd change the water as well...

Well, when I put the water dish back in, she struck me with all of her fierceness. I had been bitten when I first got her, but that wasn't even like being poked by a butter knife.

This time, it actually quite hurt, and there was a good size ball of blood using out of my index finger.

I kind of saw it coming, but just wasn't adverse to it happening... like pain is a great teacher or something.... but I hope it doesn't happen again.

    Just thought I'd share.

Welcome to your first SFE (stupid feeding error) LOL. It happens to most of us at some point or other. Wow 50 gallons! That's a big enclosure for a young snake. How is the snake doing with that much space? Lots of extra hides hopefully.

Ha, well it's the day after and I'm having trouble even figuring out which finger was bit....

But boy did it hurt! Is there any type of low-level "rodent" venom whatsoever in the snake??? or is it just a totally dry bite?

possibly it was a 3... like it hurt more than the average cut, but not as bad as getting burned by a pot or having tooth or head pain.

Anyone else want to rate their previous bites?

My only bite that bled , was from a small BP, it bled a lot but didnt hurt at all.

    so 0 / 10

edit: but my big headed females make me wonder what a bite from them would feel like , they have been a little aggressive lately so I guess we will see.

vanessa bit me when she was younger. if 1 was being poked by a butter knife and 10 was being burned by a hot pot or pan it was probably a 3. it was about like a papercut for the first few seconds but then it went away completely. it startled me more than anything.

snake Bites are the whole reason, i would never think of getting hots. Snakes seem to like to bite me. I've been bitten bymost of our snakes from a bp's to the redtail we are fostering.Shoot even bp's in pet stores seem to want to bite me. As for pain from a bite, shoot when Rauri bit me he left three little drops of blood. Now the next day i was helping a friend move and two of her cats, which left sratch marks that lasted for a week or so. Lets see I've been bitten by dogs, cats, snakes, a goat,( dont ask lol) a horse and my kids after tinking it over still think the horse was the worst. thats just a little thought on things that can and will bite you. Which is my Favorite question about keeping snakes will they bite you, to wich i answer of course they have teeth any creature that has teeth at some point may bite u it's our responsibility as the More evolved life form to accept that it may happen and do those things possiable to limit or remove the chance that they can bite us and when they do it usually comes down to some moment of inattenion on our part they caused it in the first place.

Hmmm I've known my husband all these years and he's never mentioned that goat bite! LOL Could explain why he has a distinct dislike of goats though! :P

We just treat the occasional nip as part and parcel of owning snakes. It's not like they can communicate well with us, even as much as a dog or cat might, to let us know their mood or needs, so if they bite, they bite...no biggie. As Michael said it's usually about our inattention or something we've inadvertently done to trigger the bite, sometimes it's just a "who knows why" situation but again no biggie.

Even when Mike got tagged by the big BCI it was simply a tap. Sure you can't ever forget that's a big snake and can do some damage but you do what you can to provide the snake an experience that won't encourage biting and then just deal responsibly and calmly with it.
