Tornado's in the south
I'm currently watching CNN live coverage of the tornado damage in both Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers all our BPNet members in these affected areas. Both Robin (rabernet) and Christie (tigerlily) are in those areas and I will be attempting to contact both of them today to confirm they, their families and their herp collections are safe (though phone lines/cell towers may well not be operational or overloaded).
I'm not sure who else from BPNet is in the path of these tornado's but please put them in your thoughts today as they may well need our community's help and support. The damage I saw on TV is stunning, scarey stuff. Coming from the north I've never seen major tornado damage personally so it always make me sick to my stomach to see this stuff happening to folks.

Re: Tornado's in the south
Quick update. Just spoke to Christie's husband on the phone. They are further out from Nashville then I thought (my geography skills still suck LOL) and are okay other than some severe storms lately and some tornado warnings last night but they didn't get hit in their area. I tried to contact Robin but didn't get through to her though it is still early in the morning and she may just be sleeping, I'll try again later today.

Re: Tornado's in the south
I'm here, still waking up, rubbing my eyes - not aware of anything that happened last night. Karl and I both tossed and turned last night - I got up about 4 and he was out on the couch trying to keep from keeping me awake. Then I didn't really go back to sleep until about 6.
Come to think of it, I did hear some thunder that went on for a long time (like a train) and just turned over and went back to sleep.
We did have a power surge around 2 in the morning, but I had the presence of mind to check all the snakes and their UTH's were still doing fine.
It did knock out my DSL for a little while, so I couldn't even get online.
I'm IMing Cass right now and she asked if everything was fine, and told her I hadn't even looked out the window yet - she's telling me "car check, roof check, etc) LOL
Everything around me seems fine!
Thanks for your thoughts! Jo, I'd call you, but my cell phone is now down to one bar and I need to re-charge it.
I'm letting Karl sleep a little longer, then we're off to the reptile show to pick up my rack!

Yup, I'm fine too. The storms were really bad here about noon. I was going to pull my son out of school, when the tornado sirens went off. Had to hunker down with the kids in the hallways for about 30 minutes. There was baseball size hail. Almost got hit too, on my rush to retrieve my son. :O Not a plesant experience, but we made it through in one piece. The first storm Sunday was bad too. I've had enough of severe weather for awhile. ;)
I know we have a newer member that's in the Nashville area, and for the life of me I can remember who that was. I hope everyone is ok. Worldcupkeeper is in Knoxville (I believe) a little farther out of Nashville.
Thanks for thinking of me Jo. I was sleeping in this morning. ;) I love Saturdays!!!! :D

Hey, I'm from the mid-west - you gotta check these things after tornados! ;)

Re: Tornado's in the south
That time of year is upon us again:(. I, like many of us hate it:mad:. Especially living in those prone to get hit areas. If I may, I suggest if you don't have a contingency plan by now (even the veteran survivors of mother nature) then you need to get one quickly. In many cases its a hit or miss situation due to the unpredictability of these storms. With that said, plan, plan, plan. I hope and pray that any of us who must endure the wrath of mother nature exercise their plans to get to safety in one piece.

Whew... glad you guys are okay! :grouphug: Geez... weather has not been kind lately...

Not in Indiana, either. My parents' town has been hit twice in the past week... and my grandmother---who is currently staying in a nursing home about twenty minutes away---had to be moved a few times this week down to the center of the building with blankets and coats over their heads. Nasty stuff!

Re: Tornado's in the south
glad to head that everyone so far is ok. we've been under warnings all day, but WOW! the kitty and i were just jolted awake from a little nap by crazy wind, rain and thunder. i've been through a lot of storms here but never had rain and wind that sudden and that severe. once i was convinced by the sound of the wind that there was not a tornado in the immediate area i went out on my porch (screened in and 3 stories up--yeah for buildings on stilts!) and watched the large drainage ditch across the road from my building completely fill and spill over in a matter of about 2 minutes... time to prepare to brave the weather and move the car to higher ground! needless to say it has passed for now though the sky is still looking rather angry and the tornado watch is in effect till 9 p.m. :rainon:
stay safe everyone!

Re: Tornado's in the south
Well, we had to run to Walmart, which is a mile the opposite direction than we drove this morning (my solder wand died, so I had to replace it), and there was "something" that hit a few blocks from where I live. The roof is off the Wendy's, the Long John Silver is beat up, the Church's Chicken sign is destroyed, and lots of blue tarps. Didn't realize there was something THAT close! Whew!

With the weather the way it has been around you, that could have been caused by a microburst.

Not sure what a microburst is :) , but they have officially declared the one by me a confirmed F0 tornado (the weakest) and we had some confirmed F1's in the metro area as well.
