I guess this is where I should post this... I thought about the General BP page but I think this would be better... Anyway, what do you guys use? If anything? Just a curiosity question... Thanks!!

IMO, Reptisafe is a waste of money. If you are worried about chemicals in water, then either let tap water sit over night in a jug before use or do like I do for my cresteds, use bottle water. I use to let water sit in a jug over night for my snakes, but now they get tap water and have for a few years now, they are doing just fine.

Yes I use bottled water for my cresties. I do it cause of our water here, which would leave water spots on my glass cages, for me it is more of a matter of convienence, no water spots on my glass cages, means less scrubbing for me later.

the only herps that i have that get dechlorinated water are my red eyed tree frogs, because they are sensitive to the chlorine since they absorb the water directly through their skin. i either dechlorinate their water or let it sit for at least 24 hours before spraying/filling water dishes. other than that, it's straight out of the tap with no problems. :)

We have incredibly hard water in my town, like 1000 ppm, would this affect my snake in any unhealthy way? I mean I drink the same water she does, but it really dries out my skin.

When I was in Biloxi MS, the tap water smelled like sulfur and tasted as bad. Got a Brita Water filter, and it took the odor and taste right out. Might want to consider that as a good filtration method.

I also got it in a pack when I first got my bp. Been using it ever since.
I continue to use it because I have no problems and everything is well w/ my bp so what the heck.

I use well water for all my pets. It goes through a softener/filter thing, and has no odor or bad taste; it leaves deposits on things, though. I haven't run across a problem thus far.

I remember living in Texas and having well water. I used to have to give my bunny bottled water for a while. -Sighs.- I miss him.

But the tap water here is just fine so I've never had a problem with the kids.

I use the same drinking water I purchase for myself. The only ones that drink tap are the dogs. They go thru too much to buy their water. If drinking water not available I use a dechlorinator.

For my tarantulas and for my BP we use distilled water. I was concerned about chlorine and chlorimine. I know there are people who use tap for everything, I just don't like to.

Luckily, the apartment group I live in has a water softner. Usually the water the T's and the herps has sat out for at least 24 hours though.

If it wasn't for the water softener, I would use filtered water. The city water here in some parts of the city smells like a swimming pool

Just for information purposes the old way of letting tap water sit to let the chlorine evaporate no longer works with many cities. They have changed the chemicals, and if you need it declorinated, you need to use a de-clorinater.
Learned that from the saltwater tanks I kept.
Mine all drink the same well water I do.
Other than having a high pH, it is fine for them I am sure.

    Re: ReptiSafe or not??
I'm using water so fast that I don't have time to let it sit overnight to dechlorinate. I use the RS. Easier to just squirt it in and pour. I have a Brita faucet filter and pitcher both, but I use those for us, not the pets. The cats and rats get it right from the tap, but for the snakes, I use the treatment. Even by the gallon, the bottle is lasting forever, so I'm going to keep using it. Per use cost is pennies so *shrugs*

I have a Britta water filter hooked up to my faucet and use it for everything. The water in the Orchards District here is absolutely disgusting, from 4 legs to none, everything at my house gets good water :).

    Re: ReptiSafe or not??
Although this is an old thread, there is a post that I thought needed a reply -

One poster stated that she gives distilled water to her animals. Distilled water does not contain any of the essential minerals, etc that tap or bottled water contain. This is very, very bad for animals. Obviously, distilled water won't hurt them in and of itself, but it deprives them of these needed nutrients.

I just use tapwater; it's actually spring water.. or if you will, an odorless, clear version of well water :) No chlorine; I probably have a nice bio-load of parasites in me tummy! (just kidding; we get it tested.)

    Re: ReptiSafe or not??
I've used tap water and filtered with no observed difference in health or activity. The water in our little city isn't all that good to me to drink after growing up on a farm with well water (the best!) I have been using one of those tap filter attachments for years I think its just one of those pur units and I pickup filters or whole new units for cheap whenver walmart does a clearence on them.

My real reason is that the water leaves hard water lines in the dishes...yes even with regular washing. I moved to the pvc and deli cup method now and still use the filter, it keeps them looking clean a bit longer. Once they start showing the hard water lines I will recycle those delic cups and start using fresh ones. I also use the filtered water in our spay bottles for the snakes and other house plants again to try and keep hard water spots from forming.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that while at first I thought bottled water was a fad and a little weird (farm/woods boy growing up remember) I know drink bottled water myself. Its cheap stuff from walmart again but I drink quite a bit of water durring the day and the bottled doesn't have all the yuckies of our home tap water.

Tap water for my guys, I do let it sit in a open gallon jug for a couple of days first so the chlorine and chemicals escape.

    Re: ReptiSafe or not??
The water in my house comes from a shallow well, so it is not suitable for consumption by anything. I either buy 2.5 gallon jugs of spring water with the nozzle on it, or I get tap water from someone else's house.

The water they drink in the wild can't be better than our tap so tap water she gets! LOL

I have a pitcher that has a filtered top, so you pour the water in the top, and it comes out on the bottom filtered, it is what i drink, and what i use for my dog and my snakes. The only one in the family that gets hose water is my horse. But, where i am, there is a lot of sulfur in the water, and it always tasts funny. I hate it, i don't want anyone else to have to drink it either.

    Re: ReptiSafe or not??
Tap water here. As our water is just fine. I have declorinator in the house from using it in aquariums, but meh.

Now if I lived someplace where the water is just on this side of drinkable, like at my mothers house, where it often is not, it would be bottled.

I only drink bottled water, and so does Salzedo.

Has anybody tried using distilled water you buy from supermarkets in jugs? That should have zero chemicals or minerals.

Yeah, an old thread, but for newbies----something to think on....

Distilled water isn't all that great for pets. The minerals and salts have been removed...thus the "distilled" and could potentially cause kidney / bladder problems.

If you search my reply, I use it, b/c I had a bottle of it, but now that it's gone, I'm not going out of my way to buy another...however, I have moved from the town water system to a well, and my well water is extremely heavy in both sulfur AND iron....and the house's water is treated by a brine water softener system with the specialized salt for iron. Rats and snakes get it out of the faucet, horses get the non-softened water.
