My Seond New Bp...

hey everyone.. This is a Female she was born in Aug 05'.. I just got her like a hour ago ..I try to take a good pics of her but she strike at the webcam but I got one good pic of her.. in the second pic she the long one on the left side and on the right is cloud.. but for some how cloud look fat then her maybe because I power feed cloud ...I'm going to name her Storm..she look pretty..I might have to get her to get use to pick up it don't feel like she been pick up or she just scary...

ABSOLUTELY adorable. I swear, no matter how many times I see those cute little faces I squirm with excitement. Balls have such adorable faces, and she's no different.

Midnight may not know about the practice of quarantine. =)

Generally, herpers will quarantine or house the new snake in a seperate room for generally 3 months. This quarantine period is used to verify that the new animal does not have any parasites it may spread to your already established snakes.

For example, I added a boa constrictor to my snake collection and have been quarantining her in another room away from my established ball python. Six weeks into the quarantine period, she turned out to have mites! :O I was able to eliminate the mites from my boa without the mites spreading to my ball python.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've only had to deal with mites once and each new snake I get goes into an enclosure thats just been blasted with Provent-a-mite...I would think that basic sanitary practices (throwing away paper towels, using the right cleaning agents, bleaching water bowls frequently, etc) would prevent things like internal parasites or bacteria from spreading around. I've heard of things like RI spreading through water bowls, and have never heard it would just spread through the air. Your hands are another issue, make sure you wash them in between handling new additions and the rest of the collection. I don't have a huge collection though, so having an outbreak of something would be much less severe than for someone who had hundreds of animals.

Oh did not know that the new snake is in my bed room and Cloud is in a diff room with the new set up..I don't know much about mites.I al I know is that is I see one I just clean the tub and the tank...

Are you saying that you've seen mites in your tanks? For every one that you see, there's 100 other little bastards crawling around that you don't see.

Look over your BP for mites. They are usually easily seen in between the wider scales on the sides and belly of your snake. Giving your snake a soak for about 30 mins will usually kill off some of them, sometimes thats a good way to tell how bad your infestation is. Lots of visible adult mites means LOTS of invisible small adults, larvae, and eggs.

Ok I checked no I don't see any of them..I can just soak her just to make sure...

Couldn't hurt. It's just something to be aware of whenever you make an addition to the collection. Sometimes it can take a few weeks before any adult mites, if present, make themselves known. It can get even worse if you overlook it just because you didn't know what to look for.

I noticed you mentioned you "power feed" Cloud. Just wondering what you define as power feeding and why you would want to do this to Cloud in the first place? Congrats on the two BP's.

I justwanted him to get fat big and to look health but I don't it much now... I just give him one rat or a mice every sunday.. and in the middle of the month I give him 2 mice...

sometime his don't eat it if don't want to..I don't make him or force him to eat no more now..if his don't want to eat more that fine with me.. if his do I will give him more..

thats not even close to "power feeding"...

you've got an awesome looking pair there. The names are both awesome as well. Do you plan on breeding these when old enough? I predict they would make nice babies.Oh, and may I suggest investing in a can of Provent-A-Mite? No snake household should be without a can...It's great stuff!

I was planin to Breed them but that if I learn how to breed them fisrt I till got to learn how to do it.. all I know is that I think the female need to be like 1000 grams and up to breed and I think male is 600 grams and up..I don't rembemer how old they need to be to breed..and I need to know how to take care the eggs..

Start researching. There is a wealth of information out there. You just have to sift through it all. I believe a good minimum weight for a female is 1500g, but even that is only a guideline. (500g per foot of snake)
