    Fears
I realize that most of us aren't afraid of snakes, spiders, lizards, etc, but what ARE you afraid of? For people unafraid of the "great evil monsters," I was curious as to what actually hit that fear button.

    Re: Fears
I'm not really "afraid" of anything, but I do get creeped out by spiders and scorpions and such. And as I'm getting older, I'm starting to suffer vertigo from heights...not a fear at all...but a sort of dizziness that comes on. Some might call that a fear of heights, though. :(

EDIT: PS -- I moved this to the Off Topic forum.

Horribly afraid of heights (even bunkbeds make me nuts)! Spiders, scorpions, bugs...all make me shudder but with being a Mod here I do need to look at those threads so I'm actually getting less reactive to at least pictures of them. June bugs! Yes I said June bugs (beetles I guess actually)....gawd but my skin crawls even typing that! Ridiculous and silly for a grown woman to be dead scared of a big stupid flying beetle but there you go.

Other than that I hate driving in anything other than dry, clear roads in daylight hours. Too many years of northern driving in very poor conditions combined with a few years as an emergency services dispatcher seem to have left me with a pretty big fear of road accidents. Mike can't stand driving when I'm in the car on icy roads, he'd rather leave me home then deal with my hysteria.

    - Customs (for no good reason)
    - high energy strong barking dogs (just don't like to be around hyper dogs and big strong ones barking at me freak me out)
    - mushy bananas (I *HATE* bananas)

I hate slugs! Though I'm talking about those big gross slugs that slime down trees and want to hang out on my porch and make friends with me and should all go away to some slug hangout and attend to their little slug lives out of my view as I think they are gross slimey...SLUGS! :zerb:

I can't say I am *afraid* of anything but being forgotten.
That said I hate ladders(not heights, just climbing ladders, esp getting off or on at the top) and I do not believe in umbrellas. I don't use them, and refuse to be covered by one if I have any say in the matter. Apparently it only applies to rain umbrellas, as the large sun umbrellas I do not react to in the least. Yeah, it is weird. I call it a religious aversion to using a rain umbrella.

I'm only afraid of two things, one is the big scary kraken or other random sea monster that we haven't discovered yet, and because of this I can only go so far into deep lakes or oceans, think about it, we don't know what kind of ghastly creatures could excists down there. And the second...China Dolls, the ones with the menacing stare, it's like they're little demons encased in porcelin (sp?), waiting for you to turn you back, so they can run up and slit your achillies(sp?) tendon! :explosion :tombstone

I'm not sure this is a true "fear", but I loathe ticks and poison oak.

I fear dried mud on me, especially my hands or feet. It freaks me out just typing this actually

I also fear the darkness outside, being alone in the dark in the woods for even a moment is about enough to finish me off. I'm totally with you Melicious about china dolls, so scary...ESPECIALLY in low changing light.

OH yeah....*shudder*...being in a house alone at dusk drives me nuts...

As a child, I was terribly afraid of the dark...it's gotten better as an adult, but I still get the heebie jeebies sometimes...

Being forced to eat a mushy banana by a customs official while in a shady office at dusk with angry dogs barking at my heels I think would just about do me in...

(which actually kinda sounds like the setting for a depressing French movie....bleh)

(wait! they're all depressing! depressing French movie is an oxymoron! huzzah!)

Pfft...one of the guys at work duck taped a banana to the bottom of my desk chair and I didn't notice it until it had completely dried up and fell off...

I repaid him by open several single serving packets of mayonnaise and leaving them open in his office (he hates mayo as much as I hate bananas, so all's fair...muwhahahha).

...the 'It does not bother me if I know where it is" type fear...kinda like...If I were blindfolded and put in a room with a venomous snake, I would be afraid of that snake....but if I was in the room with the copperhead and could see where it was at, I would not be scared.....

Swimming in murky water and walking through the woods at night alone...both give me the creeps....ha ha...but I still do it ;) Everyone needs a good scare every now and then :devilish:

I have a powerful phobia of eye-injury. Unfortunately when most people learn of this they're compelled to tell me awful stories about eyeballs, which I appreciate will not happen here :colbert: I got very queasy during a certain scene in Bladerunner and require warnings when movies include eye gouging and the like. I have a very empathetic imagination when it comes to this particular issue and I do get physically ill. I can't even watch somebody put contacts in, which is why I'll always have to wear glasses myself.

The only time in my life I've ever fainted was in a psychology class when the teacher was talking about lobotomies and the boys kept asking for graphic details on through the eye lobotomies. One minute my head is on the desk and I'm feeling very sick trying not to listen to the teacher and wondering if I can make it to the restroom if I have to throw up, the next my side hurts from being slumped over the arm of the chair with a bunch of students and the teacher all huddled around me. She babied me for the rest of the class, it was pretty embarrassing, and she always checked with me before talking about *anything* graphic. I kept trying to explain "No, I'm fine with the guy who had the iron rod go through his brain, just don't talk about eye gouging details and I'm fine!"

Amen. Children teach you the real meaning of fear. The thought of anything happening to my kids is absolutely terrifying.

I hate heights myself. It makes me dizzy. Oh wait, that's pretty much a normal thing for me. :wuv:

    Let's see..

spiders? Nope, got around 45 of em.
centipedes? Nah, sold the last one though.
    Scorpions? Nope.

I do get grossed out by eye stuff, but I can handle putting contacts in and all that.

I am mildly claustrophobic, and I have no idea why. I really really don't like getting an MRI...especially when I know the banging noises could set off a migraine. I can handle elevators no problem...although I might not react to well if I got stuck in one for a couple hours or more....
