Re: Pickled Python
:puke: This is just disgusting. I thought eBay had a rule against selling stuff like this...or is it just HUMAN parts that is illegal?
This is legit? Or just someones sick idea of a gag? OOOOps! No pun intended!

Re: Pickled Python
Hrm, thats not cool, I have to assume it died of natural causes though, who would pickle a pastel?
-
Re: Pickled Python
What does he mean "I am dedicating this auction to all my fans on Kingsnake "? Is anyone familiar with kingsnake's forums and know who this guy is? sounds like either a bad joke, or a grudge.

Re: Pickled Python
At least he said it didn't die to be put into a jar. I would guess it died, and he thought to stuff it in then, maybe thinking he would preserve the lovely color. I dunno. I've seen people do weirder things with deceased pets, but that.. that is odd. I like how he makes sure to state that is is "Harmless while in this state" as if maybe a ball python would be venomous otherwise?
It is not illegil to sell animal parts or preserved animals on Ebay. Loads of people do it all the time, think furs, rabbit skins, or feet.. etc, bugs, pickled pig fetuses.. weird yes.

Re: Pickled Python
Hm.. I really don't have a problem with it. Then again, I have skulls, antlers and various other dead animal parts. If the snake had died of natural causes, then I see no harm done.

Re: Pickled Python
i was thinking the same thing too. i guess it would be like taxi-dermieing(sp?) an animal. its still creepy though.

Re: Pickled Python
i wouldnt want it.....but it still creeps me out.......I think he actualy thinks its cool and thinks other ppl will like it to.......but still
-
Re: Pickled Python
I wouldn't want my pet in a jar anymore than I'd want Grandpa in a jar, either of them sitting on my mantle. Yech.
-
Re: Pickled Python
Oh, I agree Gin....no harm done, so long as the snake had died for a completely separate reason. It's still creepy and disturbing in my world, though. LOL

Re: Pickled Python
That just makes me want to cry........

That's what I was thinking of...the antiquated display cases in the biology building at my university were chock full of formaldihide vats of various creatures. Very 50's...=P

Re: Pickled Python
In a couple years you probably wouldn't be able to tell it's a pastel anyway. The colors of preserved specimens fade over time, particularly yellows and oranges.

Re: Pickled Python
It look's very creepy to me . The first thing that went through my mind was is it alive. What happened to it , I guess you could say it looked healthy. Hopefully they didn't kill it for this.I don't think it will sell , at least I hope not.

I can't imagine that anyone would kill a valuable pastel just so they could put it in a jar and sell it for $30. Still.....ick.

Re: Pickled Python
It says the animal was NOT killed for the item. It's probably just some guy that came in and found his snake DOA and decided to see if he could make a couple bucks. *shrug* It doesn't bother me, but you still won't see me bidding on it either. ;)

Re: Pickled Python
meh... lots of biology freaks have a collection of animals like this. i even worked with a guy that skinned his 12ft boa when it died and mounted it on the wall... looks interesting, but i don't think i could do it to a 'pet'.
-
Re: Pickled Python
:O
my ex-step-dad had a 5 foot rattlesnake skin on his wall that was all mounted and whatever...it still even had its rattle....i used to stand on a chair to reach it and i would pet it and talk to it and stuff cuz i felt bad for it lol, then i would get yelled at for touching it lol...that dead snake on the wall is what started my love for herps lol...kinda weird but oh well

Re: Pickled Python
Geez folks lighten up, Most of you don't mind looking at such a display at say the Smithsonian.
He said it wasn't killed to put in the jar which as JLC said makes sense cuz who would kill a pastel to put in a jar ????
Some folks dig this type of stuff and others use it for education purposes.
Nothing wrong with it in my book.
How about the guy who when his wife died he had her preserved and put in a glass sealed coffee table so she would be there all the time, how'd ya like to set your drink or put your feet up on that ??? :)
I think the jar deal is amusing.
Remember " If you at laughing, you ain't living"

Re: Pickled Python
Wow, the coffee table idea is pretty strange, even to me!
