Peter she just keeps looking better and better! I'm sure she feels better too...what a fantastic improvement in really a relatively short time! It surely shows that with good care even a badly abused snake can come back sometimes. As always, congrats on your hard work and dedication to this lovely snake. You're #1 in my book! :number1:

Wow! Now, I know it's not accurate in the least to anthropomorphize snakes...but I swear, that girl looks happy!! I just love this girl, both her looks and her remarkable story of comeback! Thank you so much for your tireless dedication to helping her get better!

Re: OK my burnt royal shed last night
hi all, just thought you would like an update on mrs burnt royal, well 10 days ago I fed her and she initially took a large mouse as she has shown an aversion to rats, after that she took another large mouse, as I had defrosted a crawler rat with it I offered that too her a while later which she also took! so great we have a feeding head on!

Well last night I fed her again and she took a crawler rat right off, then another and then followed on with 2 large mice!!!!

anyway heres a couple of very quick pics as I did not want to disturb her!!

As always Peter I'm amazed at the strides you are making with this snake. She's not only healing better than I think most of us ever believed she could, but it seems she coming along to be just a wonderful solid feeder for you. What a difference you've made in this snake's life. You've earned your angel wings on this one buddy!

Joanna's definitely right about your angel wings. Between you and Beauty(I think that's Jessica, right?) you're making strides with all of your snakes.

Can I ask a question about burnt snakes? How does that happen? Why doesn't the snake move away from the place that is too hot?

Re: OK my burnt royal shed last night
I don't know about anyone else's burnt rescues but this is what happened with two of ours just for example....

Rauri the BCI was in a tank too small for his length (5.5 feet at the time). His only choice was to either lay immersed in a huge kitty pan of water on his cool side or lay on a huge heat rock on his warm side. He would try to move the pan of water or get in it, then wet he would try to warm up I assume by laying on the heat rock which was not regulated in anyway so it likely was far too hot or spiked heat uncontrollably. Imagine wet snake on hot rock and you get the pick...fried belly. To make things worse his supposed cool side was always damp due to the overly large water container being sloshed about so a case of belly rot wasn't far off when we got him. He came to us with about 3 feet of burnt belly though thankfully not to the point of massive damage like Peter's rescued BP.

Orlah the adult female BP came to us with a huge long healed scar down her spine. Our vet feels this was caused by direct contact with an unprotected bulb inside her enclosure when she was a younger snake. What the vet figures is that Orlah curled up close to what was likely her only heat source and it seered her back, when she tried to pull away it basically stripped the skin from her spine for several inches. It must have been a very painful injury.
