Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Hi as some of you know I got a new snake on Saturday. My mom named it savannah. I dont know how much it weighs but its a heavy girl! She is in quarantine for 3 months. Do you think 3 months is to long? She is a WC and hasnt ate in 6 months atleast thats what the guy told me. I paid $50.00 for her and I think it is a steal because I know I can get her to eat. The guy I got her from wasnt housing her right. He had her in a 40 gallon breeder and used analog thermometers and had a light on top as the only heat source. He said he tried feeding it rats, mice, and gerbils, live and F/T . I think he might be offering to big of prey because it seems like the snake is very hungry. She has very good muscle tone still and just a tiny bit loose skin but nothing to worry about. She has been in captivity for 8 months now. How long do you think I should quarantine her for? Also she has a vet visit on the 29th because it is the earliest they can get her in! I am 99% sure she has a URI as I herd her weezing. I am also going to get her treated for internal parasites even if she doesnt have any because she wont poop unless she has a meal in her. I will also have the vet probe her but the guy said he had her probed and it turned out female. I also believe it is female but I just want to make sure. I will stop my rambling and show yous ome pictures!!!

I think a 3 month quarantine would be the minimum you'd want to do for a wild-caught animal that you already know has an infection of some sort. If I were in your shoes, I'd get her to the vet and get her all healed up and THEN start my 3-month countdown. :)
Good luck with her! She's pretty and I hope she eats for you soon!
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
You know what that does sound like a good plan get her all fixed up first! Thank you everyone. I need to order a thermostat now atleast a better one like a helix control.
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Poor gal! She has a lovely pattern though, can see it best in the last pic. :) Good luck getting her all ship shape!
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Thank you everyone and I will do my absolute best to get her in tip top shape. When should I try feeding her next?
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
You did her afavor...I'm sure she'll be healed up in no time with your TLC!!
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Thank you 4thesnakelady! Also She always lets her gold mine out if you know what i mean. One time though it was a little bloody. I will have the vet look at her. What do you think i should try feeding her and when?

Maybe I'm having a blind, naive moment about snakes, but I have no idea what you meant by that.
As for feeding, unless she is seriously underweight, I would hold off feeding for now. It sounds like she's had a very traumatic and stressful time of it. And she still has a lot of stress ahead of her with the vet visits and likely treatments she will go through. If I were in your shoes, I'd just leave her totally alone except to take her to the vet and follow his instructions. Ask the vet if the medications you may be given will affect her eating (cause her to regurge, for instance.)
Once she's all done being messed with and fussed over...give her a week to settle in and start to feel safe....then attempt to feed her with a small-ish sized rodent.
I don't know if the more experienced folks will have different advice, but this is what makes sense to me.
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Well she lets her vagina out like if she just rubs her tail on my arm she will put them out like she is horny or something!
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
I can honestly say...I had NO idea that female snakes exposed their sexual organs.
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
it happens sometimes... a bit startling the first time you see it.
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
She is definitely a cutie! I am sure she will come around in no time with a vet visit and proper husbandry.
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Andre, you and I spoke in AIM regarding this days ago and you know the proper term for this is "everting". Terms like "vagina" and "horny" do not apply to snakes nor are appropriate to use in regards to this behaviour. VPI's explanation of probing covers some basics of snake reproductive terminology and anatomy....

On the rare occasion I have had a female evert Adam told me it could have been stress related and he was quite right (we were soaking Orlah for badly retained shed at the time). I highly doubt your snake is in anyway interested in you as a potential mate.

Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Yes children, remember... snakes do not have vagi--- well, you know. Instead, they have hemipenial homologs. Honestly, that sounds a little more nasty, but much more accurate. :sweeet:
Re: Heres my new girl Savannah!!!
Ahhhh...As Borat from Ali G would say its the Vagine..
