Why would you want them to?
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
They would not even recognize fish as food. They hunt warm-blooded critters, so fish and other seafood would not even register on their "radar." And besides that...bp's eat RATS....even babies can start out eating baby rats or small, adult mice. It'd take a LOT of feeder fish to try and equal that sort of food volume.
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
I have to say, this is a first!
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
There are some snakes that eat feeder fish. I cant recall which they are though. Garter and Ribbon I believe.
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Very few captive snakes will eat fish......garters and ribbons are the only two common captive snakes that I can think of....i think it still depends on the type of garter or ribbon....some are found in environments where fish are not easy to come by...
I have actually seen a cottommouth eat a catfish before...pretty cool stuff...Fish eaters generally come from a 'marsh' or 'waters edge' type environment...fish is all they really have to eat in that location so they are adapted to eating fish.

Poor things...*really* need some fried biscuits and cold beer to wash down catfish...nummy. =)

.....that is the one time that I can really beat myself for not having a camera....it was swimming across a canal with the catfish squirming in its mouth....that would have been one wicked photo...
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Yes, there are definitely some snakes that eat fish. My answer was just directed towards ball pythons in particular.
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
I was cooking croker the other day, and as soon as I started gutting them.... bo went bannanas... he stuck a third of his body out of his hide, and suspended it for 5 minutes... I had the thought too
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
phew i'm glad i'm not the only one that had that thought...
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Cleo was doing some major air sniffing last night when I was making lamb tikka masala, hehe...=)
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Seafood diets are VERY GOOD for a ball python...
KEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!!
But ball pythons eat rodents. If you want to clean up fish-stank-snake-poop, get a garter snake.
K~
P.S. Seafood...mmmmm!!!!!!!!
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Thanks everyone. Now I have to go out and buy fish for dinner.. grr.
Re: seafood for bps...can it work??
Mmm, seafood.... Won't kingsnakes take fish as food too? Although... Kingsnakes I've heard will eat just about anything you put in front of them!
