I hear that... I'm going to have a hard time resisting them at the Reptile show this weekend. I've been wanting to get a couple for a while!

What ya got for me? ;).......breeding was kinda the plan, but since I have never really been interested in geckos until recently...i figured I would keep one at first to see how it goes :D...I think this one is still too young to sex(looks like a female now)....

Some people don't get it, others get hooked on them...I got hooked myself about 2 years ago. The mere simplicity of their care alone makes them attractive enough. I probably spend a grand total of 5 minutes per week maintaining a trio of them. Heat, water, mealworms, calcium, done.

Maybe you need a second leo with a known sex to compare this one too. :)

I agree with elevatethis, they are quite the low maintenance pets, on all eight of mine I only spend 10-15 minutes spot cleaning cages, feeding and making up the humid hides/egg laying containers. Plus they hardly take up any space....well unless you have a nice handful of them.

    Good luck with "her"

it's a girl! girls do have slight bulges but she is lacking enlarged preanal pores which become clear to the naked eye in males at around a month of age if not before. congrats!

unfortunately i have no mate for her at this time. i just sold my last male from 2005 leaving me only with milton, my breeder male. i do have the first clutch of the season in the incubator though, and am expecting more eggs any day. :)

    for future reference:

    male:

    http://www.mlededee.com/herps/leos/leo_male.jpg

note the enlarged pre-anal pores along with the presence of bulges at the base of the tail.

    ---------------------------------------

    female:

    http://www.mlededee.com/herps/leos/leo_female01.jpg

note that there is still somewhat of a bulge but the pre-anal pores are not enlarged. the cloacal opening curves inward more as opposed to being more flat like that of a male.

Most of what I've seen with leo genetics is that it's more of a selectively bred thing than with ball pythons.

There are three different types of albino and they do not mix to produce an albino though! I.E. rainwater albino x with bell albino would just give you double hets for rainwater and bell. I don't think anybody has made a rainwater combined with bell or tremper albino that's visible for both. If they have, it's not very noticeable. Anyway, I'll let you find it all out. I just have the basics of what I've got down myself.

Btw, your leo is a cutie! I want to pick up another female myself.

We just named her...Brynhild...or Bryn for short. Brynhild is the chief of the Valkyries and Valkyries are the choosers of the slain in Norse mythology.
