Two New Girls - DU Warning
Just got two new girls today from Will Bird. Pandora is gorgeous! She came out of the bag as if shipping is old hat to her. "Hey there, who are you? Aren't I gorgeous?" She weighed 320 grams. She's very laid back!

Skye stayed curled in a ball going "Please don't eat me!!!!" She's 228 grams. But she does have a little attitude - although I really think it's fear. When she had enough of the photo session - she started striking at me, so I tucked her away in her tub for her week of acclimation.

Thank goodness I've got others to handle when the "I want to hold" itch needs scratching! LOL

That last photo of Skye was right before she did her darndest to tag me to let me know she'd had just about enough of this nonsense!

Edit: I was talking to Jo and I was telling her that I noticed right before Skye would strike, she'd start waving the tip of her tail back and forth very rapidly, sort of like she thought she was a rattler. Has anyone else observed this with their snakes right before a strike? She's my first "striking" snake.

Oh, and I want to send a special thanks to my "West Coast" friend Cassie, for keeping vigil on the UPS website last night. What time did they finally show up online, Cassie? 11 at night your time? So 2 in the morning here - well past my bedtime!

I'm just starting out getting my collection of females, so I have a few years before they're ready for breeding. I don't trust the pet store by me to buy surrendered adults - their husbandry practices are apalling, they have one housed with a RTB right now. Very stressed out. I need to venture out and find some other stores with reptiles, maybe I'll find a source that way and can breed a season sooner. No rush though!

Oh, and I've also seen mites on their snakes - not interested in bringing any of those critters home!

Congrats Robin. I've been wondering when you'd get those pics up! They look wonderful.

Never heard of a rattler bp. That's new, and pretty funny. :D

Oh Robin they are darling! Very nice of you Cass to stay up on snake vigil for Robin, there's a real show of community spirit if I've ever seen one! :)

    Beautiful girls Robin, just beautiful.

I've never seen any of ours do a tail waggle before striking...how funny! She's either trying to convince you she's a big ole mean rattlesnake or perhaps just expressing her inner feline LOL.

Or she was trying to hypnotize me, I was rather mesmerized watching the tail waggling! I just sat their and stared at it until I had to jump back quickly when the strike followed shortly after that! LOL

    They are both beautiful!

My BP has never attemped to strike at me, but my son's sonoran gopher snake often does a rattlesnake impersonation before he strikes. If his tail happens to be in the aspen bedding at the time, you can actually hear it buzz. It's all show though. Even if he does strike, he does so with a closed mouth, and he tames down quickly therafter.

rabernet, they look great! cute pics too....and alas I am playing future matchmaker for my three new girls, as none of them are breeding size yet either.......oh the WAITIING game...I hate it!! as far as the tail wagging thing goes, i have witnessed it two or three times before, but it was more like a serpentine-type wag of the tail rather than a tailvibrating rattle like a lot of milks and kings I've seen do......and If I remember correctly, the few times I saw this was like yours....when the BP was really pissed!
