First time MY bp bit me

Ok, so it was feeding day today and went down stairs to get a mouse out of the cage, brought it up and noticed he was in his hide. So I put the mouse in a seperate container and forgot to wash my hands after touching in. :oops: So I then went to pick up my BP and he got me in the pinki. It wasnt the worst bite ever but deffently made me jump and yell a couple of words....... anyways, thought id share that this is the first time iv been bit by MY ball python. And yes, I took all fault by it.

I don't think Karma was trying to belittle anyone. I took it as more of a hesitant "congrats" with a humorous tone as if they weren't sure if the person were taking the bite as a "rite of passage" or something....which I kind of think it is, in a way.


In the cycling world, there are two kinds of cyclists....those who have fallen down...and those who haven't ridden yet!

In the snake-keeping world, there are those who have been bit...and those who WILL be bit! ;)

PJ FF or whomever, there is never a reason to PM any member of this forum using offensive language. If there's an issue please treat it respectfully both in public and in private messaging, or bring it to a Mod or Admin for resolution.


I agree with Judy that there was obviously no attempt to be rude or belittle on Karma's part. We often do see bites as a right of passage be that as it may (and these are not hot snakes we are dealing with).

I've yet to be inducted into the BP bite club, but I'm sure it will happen sooner or latter. Been struck at a few times, but none have tagged me yet!

My apologies, I should have kept my mouth shut. One word posts on the internet are often hard to decypher unless you know the person, and I should have withheld judgement.

Oh I've done the internet stuff the foot in the mouth business myself and had to back it up a bit, it happens and thanks for handling it well in your last post Snakey.

I've yet to go through this initiation stage - closest I got was with my new Hognose, Noodle, I had washed my hands after physically handling her frozen mouse to get it defrosted but I swear she must have smelt it all the way from the kitchen coz she dashed over to the glass to get at us when we went into her room - hissing and displaying.

As for our Sav - I'm sure it's just a matter of time ...

Haha, yea...today was the first time my BP ever took a swing at me too. I was just waking up and went to change out his water, so i lifted the lid of the tub and WHAM. Lovely when your first words of the day is "Holy s#*t!! F*** that!"

Emily has never been like that when I lift her hide (unless of course I'm dangling Mouse) - she's mostly in her hide when I get her out in the evening but she's never minded - yet ... ?

Edit: I always talk to her first and stroke her before lifting her out, I don't just grab :D
