Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
Besides ball pythons? Ball pythons are most definitely my favorite, but years down the road, I might be interested in acquiring another species of snake as a pet only. Balls are the only species that I'm interested in breeding.

So, out of your own personal collection, what's your favorite snake, other than a ball - and why? In Georgia, we cannot own corn snakes or king snakes (since they are indigenous to the state).

I really like the dumerils, I love their patterns, the bloods are gorgeous, and I also love the BRBs, but I think their husbandry requirements would be difficult to maintain. I didn't used to like the boas, but the BCI's are starting to grow on me, and their smaller size (compared to the BCC - gosh I hope I don't have them backwards) is appealing.

Rough call narrowing it down to ONE species outside of ball pythons.

    TORTURE I say, madam!

Painted inito a corner like this I am going to have to go with brongersmai - though i admit I'd love a nice Argentine and scrubs are nice too . . . .

Weelllll....if I have to pick a favorite besides BP's that I actually have in my collection, I guess I'll have to go with a cape gopher, although it's a really tough choice! LOL

Seriously, though...picking a favorite species of snake would be impossible for me. That's like asking me which of my three kids is my favorite! LOL

EDIT: Do the words "gopher, although" look underlined to you? That line popped up while I was typing the words. I tried to use the U button to toggle the line on and off, but it wouldn't go away. Vewwwwy strange!

EDIT 2: Ok...all fixed. Musta somehow bumped into the URL button while typing. I'm such a goof!

Yeah I see the underline. Somehow you got it hyperlinked, but you should be able to delete that. (I think)

As for favorite species other than ball pythons.... Huh.... I dunno. I love the BRB and the Spotteds. I love the look of bloods and burmese too. Nope, can't narrow it down.

I think so! I don't know if most of them can be classified as "real" snakes though.:P

I would have to say other than BPs my favorite snake would have to be Python breitensteini.

i love carpet pythons (all of them!). they have a good size, disposition, feeding response, and just look great. i also love Antaresia (especially spotteds and stimson's)... besides they feeding problems when they're young, they're awesome to work with.

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
    P. brongersmai.. though P. curtus curtus (sumatran short tails) are soooo super cool.

    It's a very, very difficult decision. That's why I currently keep 14 species. :)

It's hard to beat a good suriname BCC.. though like Smulkin, occidentalis (argentine) boas make me drool. Barneck scrubs are wicked looking too.

And then there's savu pythons with their awesome white eyes.. burms with their lovely temperaments.. dumerils with their cryptic patterns.. albino tangerine honduran milks with their outrageous oranges..

I love my anacondas too.. they have a subtle beauty about them.

I guess sumatran red bloods are my favorites though.. I think. :)

Other than ball pythons (my favorite), I'd have to go with <i>boa constrictor imperator</i>.

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
OK, let me re-phrase that. You might not admit it, but in your personal collection - I bet you have a favorite. I even have a favorite - Kashmire, even though they are all ball pythons.

Since I've not really researched other snakes - you guys just HAD to give me their latin names, didn't you? Guess I'll be googling away later! LOL

So, out of your personal collection, which snake is your personal favorite, and why? There's got to be one that if you were told you had to give them all up but one, which one would you keep? How's that? Probably still tough, huh? LOL

Besides balls I like Mangrove snakes (hope to have one soon ;) ) and I LOVE Ringed Pythons, the color as a babie and the color as adults are awsome.

Well I missed that post, in my collection my favorite is my Andean Milksnake, just because I have no other snake that is that agressive towards me :)

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
Well, as I only have 2 snakes so far, lol! I suppose my other favorite would be Falkor the corn! ;) I love this little dude. My first snake ever.

I *am* madly in love with the blue beauties tho. When I do get one and if it works out really well with her I'd be tempted to breed them. Any additional BPs will be purely for cuddling purposes. :D

Ringed pythons are very unique. Too bad they don't keep the baby color!

My favorite in my collection.. hmm.. probably Habanera my female blood. Rowan my male surinam is real nice too though. I don't know really.

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
I would have to say (if I HAVE TO) pick a second favorie, It would be a tossup between leucistic ratsnakes...ya just gotta love a pure white snake with blue/gray eyes... and rosy boas.. really cool and friendly little boas... and the rosys stay small, for a boa. I looove the amazon basin ETB's as well, but can never afford one.

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
I'm sure this is probably sacrilege, but ball pythons don't even hit my top 10 list if it wasn't for the morphs. And no, I'm not talking about the financial (HA!) side of morphs, I just like the way they pretty up a ball.

Snakes I'd keep before buying a normal ball:

    Blood pythons
    Borneo short-tailed pythons
    Sumatran short-tailed pythons
    Blackheaded pythons
    Womas
    Angolan pythons
    Large-blotched pythons
    Olive pythons
    True red-tailed boas
    Trans-Pecos ratsnakes
    Black milksnakes

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
Yeah.. normal BPs aren't even in my top 20 list.. maybe not even top 30.

Womas are really cool.. and I'd like to add eastern indigo snakes to my top list. :P

I feel bad for leaving out my tied for #1 spot favorite boid.. boelen's pythons. I forget about them because they are so rare in captive collections. *sigh*

I think I've always been facinated by the arboreal boas and pythons. ATB ETB GTP, even some Carpets. I'm too deep into BPs now tho, I'm seriously out of room!

My favorite snake that I personally keep is Zephyr, my liasis fuscus (brown water python). His irridescence and sleek shape make him beautiful to look at, but it's his sweet disposition that won me over.

On the flip side, I have a female fuscus that is the devil incarnate. Even more beautiful because of her bright orange belly, but you can't get near her without fearing for your life.

Re: Other than the obvious, what's your favorite snake?
My favorite non ball python in my collection is definately my Sarawak short tail. The black blood runs a close second, but I didn't raise her up from a tiny baby like I have with the Sarawak. He's grown SO MUCH since I got him.

As for snakes I don't own, it's probably Green Tree pythons.

in my collection my favorite is vanessa, but only because ive had her the longest and got her when she was only a little hatchling.

out of my collection i would have to say:
    angolans
    black headed pythons
    childreni pythons
    boelens pythons
    retics
    GTP's (and carpochondros espescially)
    borneo short-tails
    ATB's
    BRB's
    african rock pythons

and thats just a few, lol. i pretty much like any boid.
