Post Your Hiding Places/Water Bowl Pics
I'm looking for hiding places and water bowls to use inside tubs. I want them to be practical and cheap. Please post your ideas and pics of hiding spots and water bowls used in your plastic enclosures. Thanks. :frustrate

in the first pic the hide is a plastic flower pot bottom with a 2 inch hole cut in it. less than buck. in the 2nd pic is a water bowl (ceramic) about a buck. for juvies i use a bigger flower pot bottom. for adults i use a small plastic kitty litter pan and cut a hole in it and flip it upside down.

I'd like to share my water bowl 'system'. I got this idea from Adam, and I love it because it's so easy and clean for the snakes. I buy 4.5" plastic deli cups from foodservicedirect.com in a case of 500, and each week I give the snakes fresh ones, and throw out the ones that they used. For bigger snakes, I go to the hardware store and get PVC couplers to set the cups in. They are heavy and the snakes don't knock them over. Here's one like that in my blood's tub.

This is a gladware bowl 8"x8"x2" flipped over w/ hole cut. Ozzy loves it.
The water bowl is a clay pot bottom. They could both work in tubs.

As far as hides.. I use everything from plastic and foam tv dinner and fast food trays, to cut down margarine tubs, to kitty litter pans. We don't throw away a lot at my house! ;)

I should mention that I have big BP's so that kitty box looks like it will do the trick I would like to see more pics with hides that big.

Where did you get that awesome waterbowl from? It looks heavy and that's exactly what I need for my tub.

Try gardening centers, Lowe's and craft stores, for example, Jo Ann's, for year-round flower pot stuff...I would guess dollar stores would also be a good bet for various plastic-cheap-bowl-type-things that would work. =)

    Jotay, great setup!

It looks like the water bowl used by elevatethis is a stoneware "Superpet" bowl. I have two of those myself, both purchased at petstores, and they're wonderful - very heavy and they won't tip over.

I know you are looking for larger hides, but figured it wouldn't hurt to post for others who may have younger ball pythons and are also interested in what people are using. The upside down bowls were purchased in a pack of three for $1. You can get them at Dollar Tree and Dollar General. They also sell a larger version. The purple box came in a set of three for $3 at Dollar General. I flipped it upside down and soldered an entrance facing the water bowl. The "kids" love this hide!

Thanks! It's a 41 quart Sterilite 1986. Hopefully it has some "growing" room. I also have sets of those same bowls in a larger size when they outgrow these. I'm amazed that they are able to cram their whole bodies inside the purple hides, but they do it!

I got those waterbowls from the store I work at, I think SuperPet makes them, or at least tags the ones we have. I've got a 3000g female who rearranges her tub on the regular, and has yet to overturn one.

I can get them for about $3 a piece. They probably wouldnt be too hard to ship if you wanted me to pick you up a few, I've got tons of bubblewrap. Let me know!

Yea, I do, they retail for 5.99, I get dry goods at cost. If you can't find them locally, let me know and I can pass my savings on to you (or anyone else for that matter). Shipping shouldn't be too bad, less than 10 bucks for 4 or 5 of them.....PM me if you are interested

Here's a few things we have.

This is our male when he was around 150 grams or so in his baby hide. It's just the water overflow saucer from under a terracotta plant pot. He's outgrown this now of course and has plastic bowl hides like Robin showed in her pictures.

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...bushKiller.jpg

This is an adult female in the hides I use for all my bigger bp's. They are actually heavy rubber dog dishes from a local farm/feed store. I love them other than it takes heavy wire cutters to put entrances in them due to the very tough rubber construction.

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...irseinHide.jpg

This is my biggest female Brannagh at around 2,000 grams in her tub. Two hides, her water dish...the Acu-Rite was out of the tub as I'd just finished cleaning and hadn't put it back when I took this picture. The snakes seem to like the heavy hides. They don't move around much as the rubber sort of sticks a bit plus they have that nice flat roof to hang out on.

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...nnaghinTub.jpg

I will say these dishes are okay to about 2,000 grams or so....Brannagh has pretty much outgrown the hides so I'm looking around for a bigger one of the same construction.

    Awww, thank you Raj!

It's nice to know that you're doing something right. When I got Kashmire, I spent so much money "prettying" up his enclosure, getting the "best" hides (read - prettiest pet store hides) etc.

Now I'm all about looking at things differently and more economical. Why spend $14 for a "nice" hide when the snake doesn't really care, as long as he/she feels safe and secure?

Re: Post Your Hiding Places/Water Bowl Pics
I absolutely agree. I've spent so much money on glass caging and over prized pet shop hides and water bowls. In the end the point is to keep your snakes in an environment that they like not that looks pretty. That's why I'm switching everything this year to be more practical and to save some money too.

Re: Post Your Hiding Places/Water Bowl Pics
I (She) uses the sponges in the winter to aid in humidity. I have Elec heat and it is a killer. Just a point to make if anyone is thinking of doing this. You have to rinse out daily and replace frequently. I use virosan to soak/run thru them every couple days to to make sure to kill any germs/bacteria they may be harboring. But it does work!

I agree about the overpriced hides etc from petshops when there are so many things you can find in a dollar store that is just as good if not better.
I decorate my cage with vines, plants and climbs not to make it pretty to my eye. I can't help but think the bp appreciates the comfort of not being so open when he decides to move about. Plus my bp loves to climb and hang out on the limbs, so to speak

    Raj.
Thanks so much Raj, that's kind of you to say. Really though, without the good advice of this forum we'd have likely wasted a lot of time and money needlessly at our local pet stores before we hit on what actually works and is most cost effective. A big thank you as always to the members of this forum that helped us so much in those first confusing days!

It does seem that simple is best with bp's. As long as they have what they need housing wise and you can clean it easily (plus a bit of decoration if you've a liking for it) plus some good eats and they are such easy snakes to care for IMHO.
