First real snake bite
Well I got my first really good snakebite today, I had my corn snake Ruby out just like 10 minutes ago, i was holding her in my arms and she went down my shirt, then worked her way down to my pants by my belt loop. I tried to get her but she quicly slipped her head under and through it, i think she felt trapped so she tried to go back, so she went back in again, so now there were two loops of her body in my little belt loop (so she was really stuck) i tried to very gently help her out but she obviously didnt apreciate my help. Before i knew it she had my finger in her mouth. It was all over in like 5 seconds, she let go,i started bleeding, i took my pants off and let the little butthead crawl out on her own in the bathtub
So i guess the moral of the story is, dont let your corn snakes get near those belt looops, you will end up with a bloody finger !

LOL....I was thinking the same thing! In any case, I can't imagine it's a good idea to let any snake explore the inside of your clothes. Just think what else it could bite!?! :O

Re: First real snake bite
hehe. My mom's only snake bite was when my cali king went up her sleeve and got scared and bit her arm.
Just wait 'til your boa tags you. :P

Haha...Right on. I have yet to get my first bite yet (and hopefully I never will since I am pretty careful) but I would have to say I would like it to be from a corn. I would least like it to be from the 37LB red tail. She got my fiance a few weeks ago on the elbow. She hates her tail being touched!
Why is it that snakes like to go where they shouldnt? Belt loops, wrapping themselves around every cord in sight and jamming their bodies in the smallest crack.

I know what you mean... I mine down on the counter for one little second to get something and then have to spend the next 3 hours or so taking apart my stove/oven to get her out, then putting it back together.... I've concluded that snakes do have emotions.. they love making us worry!

LOL i guess you are right adam ! but still, its the first time shes ever actually gotten me, she strikes and hisses but has never landed one, she got me pretty good actually, i can see the teethmarks pretty good.
I guess i will figure out what a "Real snake bite" feels ike when my little female boa gets bigger.....actually, no i dont plan on letting that happen, the corn biting me is fine but a 7-8-9 foot boa is not. lol im gonna start being more careful
I guess it was my fault for trying to get her out, i scared her and she just reacted.

Re: First real snake bite
My 7' boa got me pretty good, but still it wasn't very painful, and after a couple of days I didn't really feel anything. It sure looked pretty though. :)
I get more painful bites from shih tzu puppies on a daily basis. The trick to not getting hurt bad from a snake bite is to remain calm and not pull away.

Re: First real snake bite
Now when you get bitten by a retic then you have a decent bite:judge: .When we had baby corn snakes this past year i did not even relize one of the babies was biting me until my daughter told me :lmao: .

Re: First real snake bite
Wasn't it Dave Barker that someone was telling me about that got bit by a retic in the calf and still has nerve/muscle damage years later? I would think THAT'S a real snake bite. :)

I think you can see a picture of that bite, seen it floating around the internet. Yeah, looked pretty darn owie...
Everytime I hear "snake bites" now, I think of a clip Rick and I saw of that nutty Australia guy, Steve the Croc Hunter. He was removing a smallish retic (I believe), from underneath the elevated floor of a house. Had the snake out and was just holding it. Poor thing was NOT happy and kept biting Steve over and over again on his arms, blood dripping, as he was prattling away about how the snake was biting him. Dude, the snake would like to be released now!

Re: First real snake bite
LOL Cass and was Steve saying "oh what a pretty sheila you are!" the whole dang time! That guy is nuts and the most hyper human being I've ever seen...watching him on an interview on TV exhausts me totally! I'm just so tempted to use my best mom voice, frown and say "Steven! Sit still for heaven's sakes! Do we have ants in our pants!" LOL
Course in his case....he probably does.

Re: First real snake bite
Yeah, he's loony. Rick and I have actually really enjoyed watching clips and videos done by Austin Stevens. There's a couple of his clips over on the Animal Planet website; the one with him and the gila monster is so cool. =)

Re: First real snake bite
about that snakes going where they shouldnt comment...
i was sitting backwards at my computer chair and Monty was cruzin around my arms and the back of the chair when suddenly he zips inside the chair and decides to move in i got pics somewhere....
EDIT: Here they are click on the link-->http://www.webshots.com/search?new=1...e+meets+chair+
anyways i had to put the whole back of the chair into his tank (thank god it fit) and he came out eventually but man!!!!!!!!! do they like to make us worry!
-
Re: First real snake bite
Yipes! Yeah, good thing that A) you saw where he went and B) like you said, the chair fit in the cage.
I was holding Cleo a while back when she found an opening in the back of my chair. Luckily, we were able to get her out before she got too far in (just got her head in). Sneaky little buggers...

Re: First real snake bite
Both my snakes have managed to wiggle themselves inside the sofa - amazing how their bodies can get into such small cracks - thought I was going to pull my own hand off last time.
I haven't been bitten (yet) - only by my parrot and that hurts a lot - little ****** hangs on forever digging deeper and won't let go! The one I'm dreading a bite from is my daughter's Sav Monitor ... :worry:

Re: First real snake bite
I figure if you own anything with teeth, snake or not, you're just gonna get bit one day LOL. Good hot water, soap and a bit of a scrub up, then a nice layer of triple antibiotic cream (neosporin or the like) and you're good to go. At least for most bites...really huge snakes...I'm clueless on just how much damage they can inflict bite-wise but I can imagine it's not pretty.
