whats the funniest/most bazzare thing you heard about snakes?

well, here's the most funny things
1 - my granma said "OH NO!! ITS EVIL!!, ITS THE DEVIL!! KILL IT!!!!" i was like wtf???

some of my friends were like "you still dont have any babies? good!!"
last thing "what do you feed it? eggs?"

My grandmother is that way about frogs and toads. For some reason she has no problem with the massive black snakes that live all over her property. Smynx is KIND of the same way - if it has legs she doesnt want to have anything to do with it.

Weirdest thing though was not about the snakes directly but about "snake doctors" which is what she always called dragonflies - it stuck and I grew up refering to them that way - as a kid I always wondered how they took care of the snakes but figured it was handy since they could fly right in and hover where they needed to work. Even after outgrowing that idea I still think "snakedoctor" anytime I see a dragonfly.


Other than that - there are still some folks that live down in her extremely rural area who might still beleive the warning they gave me as a small child - namely that "they'll sting you with their tails too"

My boyfriend's 7 y/o daughter thought that snakes lay their eggs out of their mouth! This was becuz she saw a pic of an egg eater snake and thought the wrong thing!

If you play music after 6pm, the Russels Viper would make a bee line straight to your home and bite ya! :rolleyes:

Snakes will chase you if you decide to run. If you do get chased by such a creature, make sure you run zig-zag instead of in a straight line :rolleyes:

My mother-in-law told me this story about how there was a type of snake in the town she grew up in that would go up to nursing women as they slept and nurse from them. :eek:

It was funny when I found how milksnakes got there name. I heard that the farmers used to say that the milksnakes would steal the milk from cows. Boy I could just see that a cow standing still so a milk snake could put its teeth in thier teat.

howabout about the "two steps" in vietnam. the vipers that the vietnamese hung from the tunnles would kill you after 2 steps.

and this one isnt about snakes but it's still funny; my grandma still thinks frogs and toads give you warts.

People always ask me if I'm afraid that my snakes will hypnotize me.

I had a little girl ask where the ball python Bill was from. I told her that ball pythons come from Africa. Her response(no I am not making this up)
"Oh well, he is evil then."
Me: "No, he isn't evil"
Her: "Oh everything that comes out of Africa is evil"
Huh? What is she overhearing??? OMG.
I talked to her a bit, but was pretty astounded at that.

My buddy next door (who has nightmares about snakes) came over a few days ago when he saw the FedEx truck and said "You know those things are like copper heads. They bite you and you just die, die I tell you!!!".

I used to be deathly afraid of snakes, but at the same time fasinated by them. Used to have sooo many nightmares of being bitten and killed by snakes when I was kid...

My dad thought it would be funny to put a big rubber snake in my bed one night when I was like 12...I about killed him!

Rick still can't get over how excited I am now about snakes, hehe...=)

when i was little my brother use to tell me that worms were baby snakes and if you dug them up they would bite you. (i think i was like 4 when he would tell me this and him being in school he knew all there was to know about everything).

LMAO... it took me the longest time even after i knew better to touch a worm!

Boy, let me tell you....I worked in a pet store for six years amd I've got TONS of stories....plenty of weird reptile questions too. However, one question always comes to mind as the strangest/stupidest question about snakes Ive ever heard. A woman was asking me how I got baby snakes, because she though snakes were asexual....WTF!!!!!!

Along with the worm thing, I have met people who think a snake will turn into two snakes if you cut it in half.

I have also been asked where the stinger is in the tail.. and have met plenty of people who think snakes barf their babies up. :bleh:

Most people wonder why I'm not dead yet when I tell them what I keep in my room.

In their case, ignorance is *NOT* bliss.

Well my aunt thinks all snakes are poisonous, and i didn't know this until one day I told her that one of my red tails had bitten me in the hand, and she basically fainted. we had to call an ambulance.... and everyone tried to say it was my fault..... My arguement was that since i was standing right in front of her then obviously I'm okay..

Yeah, I get that "aren't they ALL venomous? " thing all the time ... never ceases to amaze me just how more ignorant on the natural world people can get....

Lots of people think they can sting you with their tongue too.

true. almost 90% of my friends ask me that question. when i tell them she's in the living room and i hold it in my hand most of the time. they're like "isn't it venomus? doesn't it bite?"... seems like they relate snake to venom ;l

ok, here's a new one i just got today.
a friend of mine came home , he was like "man you're crazy!!, where's the snake, i wanna see it" so i took lahsa out and i was like "here, u wanna touch it?"
he refused and said "man, there are two kind of snakes!! one that throws venom, the other one bites!!, this one definately bites!!!" ....

heheh, he made me laugh, then i explained the two types of snakes :)
